Minneapolis, MN - In one of the fastest and tightly contested
championships ever, the Lady Wolverines of the University of Michigan took the
2004 Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships with a total score of
604.5. Runner up Penn State was a close 2nd with 590.5, followed by Indiana and
Wisconsin. The meet was extremely close all weekend, but Penn State seemingly
had the meet in hand on the final evening of competition, after taking a
whopping 65 points in the mile. They would take a 34 point lead into the final 2
events of the meet. However, there were no Nittany Lions competing on Tower (10
meter platform diving), and with a 32 point effort from the diving squad,
Michigan pulled within 2 points. In the final even, UM's 400 free relay sealed
the deal, winning the event and squeaking out the team victory for the Victors
and the Best! GO BLUE!
