Cory Petero - JackAss Of The Week September 6th, 2006 - September 12th, 2006 - September 6th, 2006
Cory Petero, an assistant coach for a youth football team attacked a young football player from behind after a late hit on his own son. Cory Petero is shown on an amateur video running onto the field and knocking the kid in pads to the ground from behind.
The hit is pretty tame, but it caused a brawl with parents and children from both teams fighting on the field. Fighting continued for about 20 minutes, according to witnesses. No major injuries were reported.
Petero has now been arrested on charges of felony child abuse after he turned himself in to Stockton police Saturday night.
Never coach again
The Associated Press is reporting that Reg Evans, vice president of the Delta Youth Football League, said Cory Petero, 36, was out of line when he attacked the boy for making a late hit on Petero's son.
"He (Petero) will never coach in the DYFL again," Evans said. "This never should have happened."
Evans and other league officials met Monday to decide what to do after Saturday's incident and the ensuing brawl between parents and children from both Petero's Riveroak Redskins and the Stockton Bears.
The league governs about 12,000 players ages 7 to 14 in the northern San Joaquin Valley.
