Dan Griffin's ALL-DL TEAM - May 10th, 2005
With the season well-over a month old and Memorial Day fast approaching, it’s time to take a look at what teams are missing out on in this edition of the all disabled-list team.

Catcher: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim’s Benjie Molina- out with a strained quad, he was batting over 320 with 2 homers and 8 runs batted in

Back-up: Greg Zaun-Toronto: out with a concussion and head injuries: was batting 275 with 3 homers and 20 driven in

First basemen: Jim Thome-Phillies- out at least 2 weeks with bad back, only batting 203 with 1 homer but history has show that this guy is a potential hall of famer

Back-up: Craig Wilson- Pirates: out with a finger injury- batting 297 with 1 homer and 7 driven in

Second baseman- Jose Vidro-Nationals- out with sprained ankle, was batting 290 with 4 homers and 15 driven in for upstart DC club

Back-up: Todd Walker-Cubs: out with sprained MCL, was batting 381 and was one of few offensive sparks for Chicago

Shortstop: Nomar Garciaparra-Cubs-out with torn groin- was only batting 157 but has been a perennial all-star throughout his career

Back-up: Bobby Crosby-A’s-out with rib fracture-only with 2 at-bats this season, but had a stellar rookie season

Third Baseman- Jose Valentin-Dodgers- out with partial tear in all 3 knee ligaments, batting just 197 but has some pop and had 2 home runs

Back-up: Geoff Blum-Padres- out with chest contusion- utility player that would be an immediate asset to any big league bench

Outfield: Barry Bonds- out with knee injury- perhaps the most dominant player in the last five years, steroids or not, would bolster any line-up due to his power and on-base abilities

Magglio Ordonez- Tigers- out with hernia- before knee injury last year Maggs was one of the elite power hitting outfielders in the AL and has surprising speed

Rocco Baldelli-Tampa Bay-recovering from knee surgery- potential 20-20 threat and will drive in 80-100 runs year in and year out

Reserve: Wily Mo Pena-Cincinnati- young star with loads of potential and power

DH: Frank Thomas-White Sox-foot-one of the greatest hitters in the 90s, has heated up over the past few years, has tremendous power and great ability to get on base

Starters: Curt Schilling-Red Sox- Ankle injury- one of the most dominant starters in the game today and one of the most clutch, big-game pitchers

Ben Sheets-Brewers-viral infection- has the ability to take over a game with his overpowering fastball and devastating curve- just 1-3 this year but has a nice 3.95 era

Jason Schmidt-San Francisco-right shoulder problem- carried the Giants staff on his shoulders, has had at least 200ks two years running, 2-1, 4.71 this year

Kerry Wood- Cubs-right shoulder strain- has the ability to take over a game, has high 90s fast ball and sharp off the table breaking pitches. 1-1, 6.15 this year

Relievers: Armando Benitez- Giants- torn hamstring- had four saves this year but has been a dominant 40-save closer in years past

Jason Isringhausen- Cardinals-abdominal strain- closer by nature, can be a devastating set-up man for the all injury team

Eric Gagne-Dodgers-elbow-the most dominant closer in the game, had string of over 80+ saves in a row without blowing one.

This is one heck of a team that could easily run away and hide in any division, once these guys come back and get fully healthy, they can add a huge boost to their ball clubs.
