Embarrassed by Dallas Mavericks Mascot Champ the Horse - January 3rd, 2008
I am not one to complain much about anything in life; you take what life throws at you and drive on. I have never been one to be offended in anyway and things like what I am about to write about have never bothered me, but last night I was completely embarrassed by one of the Dallas Mavericks two mascots, Champ the Horse.

I went to the Mavericks/Warriors game last night, January 2nd, 2007 and sat in section 124, row AA.

These were tickets that were given to me for my 40th birthday. I took my wife, who you all know is a knockout, to enjoy my favorite NBA team, the Warriors. I was wearing one of the "We Believe" T-Shirts from last years Mavs/Warriors playoff series, so I knew that I was going to get heckled by fans and possibly the Mascots. It is part of the atmosphere. What I did not expect was to be embarrassed by the Mavericks team mascot, Champ the Horse. So here is the whole story in a nutshell:

At the beginning of the game Champ notices that I am sitting there wearing the Warriors T-Shirt and stands me up in front of the whole crowd and everyone boos, I was totally cool with that, I expected it. Then through out the first period he would do his normal routine and walk past and then point to me and wave me off, now that was funny too. I was cool with that too.

Here is where I start to have a problem with what he was doing. Sometime in the second period, he walks past, stops, and raises his leg like he is now urinating on me because I am a Warriors fan. The security guard stops him and says that he cannot do that.

Halftime

At the start of the third period, here comes Champ again. Once again he stops in front of me, gets the crowd all riled up at me, raises his leg and performs the whole urination thing again. Now I am starting to get angered, enough already! Once again the security guard tells him that he should not do what he is doing.

Later in the third period my wife gets up to go to the bathroom and I guess Champ notices this and when she returns, he comes over and stands in front of us and once again he gets the crowd all riled up at my presence. He makes motions at my wife with his hands, making curves like she has a nice body. He then points to me, makes some sort of gesture where he flips his hand down to suggest that I am a homosexual since I am a Warriors fan. Now please understand that I do not have anything against homosexuals or I am not a homophobe what so ever, but to insinuate that I am, in front of a crowd like that is the last draw. I am now pissed off and I get up to go talk to the security guard and asked him who this guy's boss was.

I guess that the security guard went over and talked to whoever was in charge of Champ. I thought that was the end of it, boy I was wrong. Throughout the 4th quarter, he walked passed us and looked as if he went on his way, but made some hand gestures towards me like I was crying. He did not do this once; he did this on three different occasions during the 4th quarter.

So am I overreacting? Was I wrong to get angered by this? I want to call the Dallas Mavericks front office and speak to someone regarding this, even the NBA front office. Should I just drop it? Please let me know
