Sure we all travel to ESPN.com to check out the latest news. Sure we all watch SportsCenter or ESPN News, but is it really worth it? ESPN.com is quickly becoming Ad Central for the entire internet. They deploy programming methods to allow pop up ads on people’s computers, even though they have pop up blockers. What a travesty!
Probably the most annoying feature about ESPN.com is the collapsible ad each time you visit their home page, ads on every page, and the message boards. A year ago or so, the reintroduced their boards and it has gone downhill since that launch. Sure the Rant does not have as many active members as we would like, but trolls are one item that we don’t have. Sure the Rant has ads, but those totally finance the site, changes and new implementations are added with the revenue taken in. Maybe I am just a cry baby, whom I am sure some of you will post about, but I cannot stand to go there any longer. Sportsline.com has the same information and news updates to gather without the amount of ads.
I truly believe that ESPN needs to re-think about what they are offering the public, especially the sports fans that travel to the site daily. Sure I wish and hope that the Rant will someday gather the amount of active posters that ESPN has, but I have not and will not employ pop up ads or pop under ads, or even the collapsible ads.
