ROUND 1
i will do this mock w/o trades although i strongly feel Detroit wants to move out of #2 and Miami wants to move up to #6
1 -
Oakland Jamarcus Russell - QB LSU
2 -
Detroit Gaines Adams - DE Clemson
Comments: Detroit did alot in the offseason to upgrade there offense so it seems reasonable that ugrading the offensive line would be the way to go here but they have 2 former 1st rounders at the tackle position and looking at there DE's..they clearly need an ugrade
3 -
Cleveland Adrian Peterson - RB Oklahoma
Comments: Jamal Lewis has a 1 year deal and Peterson has amazing potential. Quinn could be the choice here but Cleveland never does anything right so they'll pass.
4-
Tampa Bay Calvin Johnson - WR GT
Comments: Tampa will not trade this pick if Johnson is there. Might be the fastest pick of the whole draft. Possibly having the commish at the podium around the 12 minute mark announcing Johnson
5 -
Arizona Joe Thomas - OT Wisconsin
Comments: What does Arizona need more? nothing!!!
6
- Washington Amobi Okoye - DT Louisville
Comments: Man-child at 19. Redskins have all types of holes and the DT's didn't produce last year. Get a guy in the middle to clog things up and the DE's should get more pressure on the qb.
7
- Minnesota Laron Landry - S LSU
Comments: I'm thinking best player left on the board is the thinking here. They obviously think Tavaris Jackson will be the starter next year and that leaves Landry as the top player left. I don't think DE here cause both guys on there team are coming off injury shortened season and Anderson or Carriker aren't as highly rated as Landry or Quinn
8
- Atlanta Jamaal Anderson - DE Arkansas
Comments: Sure they wanted Landry but since he's gone, they need to get depth at DE cause Abraham gets hurt all the time and Patrick Kerney signing with Seattle.
9 -
Miami Brady Quinn - QB Notre Dame
Comments: Duh. He's still on the board and Miami QB's are a disaster. Plus, Quinn stated he'd like to play for them and I'd like to see the Jets break his legs a few times during his career.
10 -
Houston Levi Brown - OT Penn State
Comments: The Texans should be ashamed of themselves for what they did to David Carr all those years. While I think they improved there defensive alot last year and a guy like Leon Hall would be a nice pick here cause honestly who's afraid of the Texans secondary, they have to give Schaub and Co. a fighting chance
11 -
San Fran Patrick Willis - ILB - Miss
Comments: The defensive transformation continues and in the 3-4 you need linebackers. I would've put Alan Branch down here as the pick but I think he's gonna slide a bit more because of the new rules that are in place. They could still take him here though cause they could use some inside help.
12 -
Buffalo Leon Hall - DB Michigan
Comments: Buffalo is in serious transition mode. Nate Clements gone, Takeo Spikes gone..both are needs and Hall is the best available
13 -
St. Louis Adam Carriker - DE Nebraska
Comments: They need defensive help the most despite the ages of Bruce and Holt. Leonard Little while proven is starting to get up there in age (33) and James Hall is coming off a 7 game season. The backups are very inexperienced. They could also go Darelle Revis for some DB help
14 -
Carolina Greg Olsen - TE Miami
Comments: this has been projected for a few weeks now and it will open the field up for Steve Smith.
15 -
Pitt Reggie Nelson - S Florida
Comments: I'm reaching here cause they need secondary help the most. They can go multiple ways with Darelle Revis or Chris Houston or even Aaron Ross but I think Nelson fits the mold as a nice complimentary FS for Troy Polamalu
16 -
Green Bay Marshawn Lynch - RB Cal
Comments: Unless Buffalo grabs him at 12, he should be available with this pick and the Packers need a true #1 back.
17-
Jacksonville Darelle Revis - DB Pitt
Comments: Personally Ted Ginn fits better as he brings speed to a tall slower wr corp, but do the Jags want to draft another WR in the 1st round?
18-
Cincy Alan Branch - DT Michigan
Comments: Perfect fit. Highly Talented. Over the top character.
19-
Tennessee Robert Meachem - WR Tennessee
Comments: I think Jarrett is a better receiver. He might not be faster but he has the best hands in the draft and shows up in big games but can Tennessee pass up on a hometown boy?
20-
Giants Paul Posluszny - OLB Penn State
Comments: Lots of choices here at LB. Lawrence Timmons and Jon Beason are the other choices. I think Posluszny is a no nonsense player who will buy into Coughlin's system so that is why he is the choice here over the other 2.
21-
Denver Chris Houston - CB Arkansas
Comments: Denver still needs depth in the secondary. While FS or SS would be ideal, the only choice would be Michael Griffin and I think he's a bit of a reach here. Houston is the best available DB and would be a great nickel cb with Dre Bly and Champ Bailey
22-
Dallas Ted Ginn Jr. - WR Ohio State
Comments: I hope Nick agrees but at this pick, I went with best available because only a handful of DB's are left that warrant being picked over a WR like Ginn. I don't think they'll go Offensive Lineman here cause they need a Guard more than a Tackle and no Guards are touted to go this high
23-
K.C. Dwayne Jarrett - WR USC
Comments: F you Herm Edwards. Anyway, forever and a day KC has needed a WR. Here is one with a potential chip on his shoulder for being overlooked by scouts and teams. He has great hands and size and plays the game faster than most people think. He's a better version of Keyshawn Johnson
24-
New England Jarvis Moss - DE/OLB Florida
Comments: One of those hybrid type players that can line up all over the place. Coach Jerkoff loves those players and they could use some infusion of youth in the defensive side of the ball. They have another pick. Puke
25-
Jets Aaron Ross - DB Texas
Comments: The fact is the Jets have needed a shutdown corner since the day i was born yet they never make the move to get one. Ty Law was about 4 years to late in his career. Aaron Ross isn't the shutdown corner like Champ Bailey is, but he is an upgrade in the secondary because David Barrett is garbage and hopefully traded away
26-
Philly Brian Leonard - RB Rutgers
Comments: This is my homer pick that probably won't happen. Although he fills a role for the iggles. Gives them the bigger back compliment to Westbrook, can get the short yardage while giving a threat to break a long run. Has great hands out of the backfield and showed he can lead block as he led the way for Ray Rice's 1700 yards.
27-
NO Jon Beason - OLB Miami
Comments: New Orleans will at some point try and draft a wr, but i think it'll be after round 1, possibly steve smith from usc if he's available. the wr's left on the board at this point are more like colston and don't compliment him as the speed guy so they go defense. Could be Lawrence Timmons here also.
28-
New England Brandon Merriweather - FS/CB Miami
Comments: F the pats
29-
Baltimore Joe Staley - OL Central Michigan
Comments: The loss of Tony Pashos leaves a glaring hole in the depth of the offensie line. They have a solid enough defense and just picked up Mcgahee so why not try to open some holes for him.
30-
San Diego Dwayne Bowe - WR LSU
Comments: Eric Parker and Vincent Jackson are the starters. Does that scare you? They need depth in the secondary also but at this point, Bowe is the best available between both these positions.
31-
Chicago - Lawrence Timmons - OLB FSU
Comments: Possible loss of Briggs this year or next leaves a need and this guy at pick 31 is a steal. He'll have a year to learn under Urlacher and Briggs(if he's there) and that's a big thing for a rookie who's still kinda raw.
32-
Indy Michael Griffin - S Texas
Comments: Brian Leonard is a definite possibility if he's still available because they have a need at rb to help Addai and also they need depth at WR. After Harrison and Wayne, who do they have? I looked it up on Yahoo and it says
Devin Aromashodu &
John Standeford. I think they wait on both of those positions because round 2 and 3 should have alot of WRs and RBs left. Guys like Steve Smith,Steve Breaston, Sidney Rice, Anthony Gonzalez, Steve Baker, Tony Hunt, Kenny Irons, Darius Walker, Antonio Pittman and Michael Bush(possible 4th round cause of injuries) will be left on the board.
Round 2
33 -
Oakland Tony Ugoh OT Arkansas
Comments: Its not sexy but boy do the Raiders need help here. Rated 4th among Lineman in the draft. 6'5 305 so he has the size but he's not a guy who will dominate immediately and might take a few years to reach his full potential. Either way, he can't be any worse than what they have.
