2007 NFL Mock Draft 2
Here's my mock as I said I would. It is certainly a unique mock draft as I took some stretch picks and even included on trade, however more trades I think are certainly possible.
Ssigs is the Draft master, I am just here for entertainment purposes, ha ha.
I may do a Round 2 mock as well but those can be a real long shot to project, anywho enjoy or at least try too.
ROUND 1
1. Oakland: Jamarcus Russell QB LSU
- Oakland thought long and hard about Johnson but in the end they went with their future franchise QB.
2. Tampa Bay: Trade from Detroit –Calvin Johnson WR Georgia Tech
- Best player in the draft. TB really wanted this guy and Detroit didn't want to take Thomas with the 2nd pick plus they (Detroit) gain a pick or two in the deal, everyone wins (well in this scenario, on the field is another story).
3. Cleveland: Brady Quinn QB Notre Dame
- Tough to pass on Peterson but Quinn is a local guy and their future at QB.
4. Detroit: Trade from Tampa Bay - Joe Thomas OT Wisconsin
Detroit got what they wanted and were able to wait till the 4th pick, one of the best in the draft. Word is that Millen was not even allowed to mention the name Calvin Johnson, though if there was ever a time to take a WR, Johnson was it.
5. Arizona: Gaines Adams DE Clemson
- Besides Thomas, who was a target, this is a no brainer. Edge jumps for joy that Peterson remains on the board, but not for long.
6. Washington: Leon Hall CB Michigan
- Washington had hoped to trade for Briggs but a deal could not be worked out and with Adams gone Hall to the rescue. Bit of a strech here though since it seems Washington doesn't seem to want this pick in the draft.
7. Minnesota: Adrian Peterson RB Oklahoma
- Peterson falls into their lap, this is a run first offense and Childress just popped a slight woody. He will have to work on his receiving game since he will be used out of the backfield more than he was in college. What better way to groom Jackson, if he is the future at QB for the Vikings, than a platoon (for a while) of Peterson and Taylor.
8. Atlanta: Laron Landry S LSU
- They wanted him and they got him. Should be an immediate impact player.
9. Miami: Amobi Okoye DT Louisville
- D line help is always good and it doesn't get much better at the DT position. What a D this is shaping up to be.
10. Houston: Levi Brown OT Penn State
- Schaub has a Levi's clause in his contract and its not the jeans.
11. San Fransico: Adam Carriker DE Nebraska
- San Fran continues to upgrade their team though they hope to address LB and WR in later rounds. The right guy for the 3 - 4 D.
12. Buffalo: Patrick Willis ILB Ole Miss
- While they were hoping to forget the name Willis…what don't they need? Obviously they are not addressing RB with Turner (SD) if they are still picking 12th. Though Lynch could be a possible pick here or a 2nd/3rd round back could do the trick still getting Willis.
13. St. Louis: Jamaal Anderson DE Arkansas
- Ideally they wanted to go LB here but DE is a big need and Anderson is the man.
14. Carolina: Greg Olsen TE Miami
- Seems most likely scenario, though they could go WR such as Ginn Jr a LB or S would not surprise. It’s the Panthers so who cares anyway.
15. Pittsburgh: Lawrence Timmons OLB Florida St
- The loss of Porter is but an distant memory as Timmons roles into town.
16. Green Bay: Marshawn Lynch RB California
- If Buffalo doesn't take him he goes to the Frozen Tundra and should start right out of the gates. While downing cheese curds, Brett Favre jumps for joy.
17. Jacksonville: Reggie Nelson S Florida
- Best available and easy fit into this damaging D he knows how to lay the wood.
18. Cincinnatti: Alan Branch DT Michigan
- Surprised he has fallen to them, the Bengals take Branch off the board in handcuffs to make him feel he is truly part of the team. Honestly the character guy this team needs.
19. Tennessee: Robert Meachem WR Tennessee
- After Johnson the other 1st/early 2nd round receivers are pretty evenly matched with upside and downside, the Titans keep Meachem at home.
20. New York (G): Chris Houston CB Arkansas
- While LB is a glaring need they could address that in later rounds as Houston has fallen to them and can't be passed up. A LB here would not surprise me though obviously.
21. Denver: Joe Staley OT Central Michigan
- While D line is a sure possibility here the players they targeted didn't fall to them. Staley really fits the mold of their O line and system well.
22. Dallas: Jarvis Moss DE Florida
- They could be looking WR (Bowe or Jarrett) or wait till later rounds, but Moss fits their 3-4 scheme very well. I can only hope they forget to pick and don't get on the board till late in the 2nd round or beyond.
23. Kansas City: Ted Ginn Jr. WR Ohio State
- While they possibly were looking for Jarrett, Ginn Jr. fell into their lap and they could not resist. Hope he still likes the color red.
24. New England: Darrelle Revis CB Pittsburgh
- Not sure Revis will fall this far but this is an easy pick for the Pats if he does.
25. New York (J): Aaron Ross CB Texas
- Best CB avialable and an upgrade overall. If Olsen were to fall here I could see them possibly going that route too. For some reason I think WR Bowe could be a possiblity as well.
26. Philadelphia: Michael Griffin S Texas
- While Ross was a target and Leonard is a possibility, Griffin fits a need very well. If Ross is still on the board, he may be taken here. If they valued LB's differently they could try to address that here but if Leonard is gone early in round 2 or even late round 1 they could try for David Harris LB Michigan.
27. New Orleans: Paul Posluszny OLB Penn State
- Upgrade and perfect player to excel on the Saints, he may not fall this far but if he does this is a no brainer.
28. New England: Jon Beason LB Miami
- Bill personally worked this guy out apparently, so the added youth and upside is worth it with this pick.
29. Baltimore: Justin Blalock OG Texas
- Baltimore could go a number of ways but this makes the most sense with this pick.
30. San Diego: Dwayne Jarrett WR USC
- Dwayne Bowe could just as easily go to the Chargers here, either way I think one of the two slips to the second round. Millen eagerly awaits which.
31. Chicago: Arron Sears OT Tennessee
- If Briggs is still around they can address LB in later rounds and Sears is a good fit for this pick.
32. Indianapolis: Justin Harrell DT Tennessee
- C Kalil is a possibility and the targeted LB's are gone...DT is a definite need.
