Way back in the early to mid 70's, Neilson was coaching an OHA Tier 1 Junior team and they had a one goal lead in a big game. He had gone through the rule book and found out there was nothing prohibiting what he was about to do - he pulled a forward off the ice and put in 2 goalies at once in the last minute. Long argument with the ref, and Neilson demanding the ref show where in the rule book this was prohibited, all resulted in the Ref saying no way to 2 goalies at once. Plus, in the off-season they actually updated the CAHA rule book to specifically state 6 skaters at full strength where one and only one of those 6 could be a goalie.
