KoolMang, use common sense and consider a few things before you launch yet another impotent crusade.
First, the murder trial was NOT cancelled- the jurors were given a three hour reprieve to watch the hockey game. Unless
you have served in a jury, you have no right to criticize. The murder/dismemberment trial for the parents of the 5 year old Farah Khan was probably one of the most horrendous, stressful and painful experiences those people had to endure. Jurors get paid next to nothing, have to endure long hours away from their families and- as in this case- are often exposed to evils that will haunt them for the rest of their lives. Have you ever had to sit through hours upon hours of tedious and boring testimonies and then be sequestered in a room for hours-to days to come up with a verdict?
There was absolutely no doubt regarding the guilt of the father. He confessed to the murder and even showed the police where he buried some of the dismembered parts of his daughter's body. Do you really think taking some time off before rendering the verdict would have changed anything?

Well, that figures. Justice also seems to stop because of the game, in fact, we should elect Cujo as Mayor of Toronto! I just don't see how the Leafs can wield such a power over people. Sometimes I miss important crap on TV when I'm working, but I just accept it that I'm working, and I should deal with it.
You see in movies like "Armageddon", how people listen to the radio at work, and service comes to a halt, to see if the world has ended yet. But more sports-related, you see people in movies listening to radios, or watching tv, when they SHOULD be doing their FUCKING JOB. Because of the time it took to get to my pita, I missed the beginning of the episode, because of those fuckers who took the time to cancel out on work because of some insignificant hockey game.
Don't mind me, I respect sports fans, but it seems that the more you get into it, the more it takes over you. I can't say to my customers who brag about the Leafs: "I really hope they lose in the future.", because it is poor customer service, and RUDE. I've lost "friends" because I hated the Leafs with an undying passion. Like, it's a pretty unique concept, making a team with white and blue the "Leafs". It's a cult up here, unfortunately.

A word of advice- know what the fuck you are talking about before you post your asinine opinions. Curtis Joseph (Cujo) has been the goalie for the Red Wings for the last 2 years. He is as popular with most Maple Leafs fans as George W. Bush is with the gay-vegan-muslim-environmentalists of France.
Have you ever invested any emotional connection to something intangible- like a television show, politics, music, celebrities...? I'll bet you have... in fact, with the ubiquity of television/movie/radio we all have. So, why would you question the power of sports over people? To many people of Toronto, the Maple Leafs ARE important. They have a galvanizing effect on our diverse and disparate communities. They represent a distraction from the tedium and hardships of everyday life and above all- give hope and inspiration, as ephemeral as it may be, to millions that just- maybe this year- their sacrifices, hardwork, blood and broken bodies will be rewarded with the distinction of being the best team in their sport. Bosox fans probably know more than anyone else what I am talking about.
Are Canadians too hockey obsessed? Maybe. But hockey is a part of our rich heritage with deep roots that span all generations and social strata. You see, our jobs give us the
means to live but these intangibles in life like hockey (or whatever you hold dear) give us the
reason to live.
So before your next attempt at profundity and trying to impress us with your intelligence, I recommend two points:
1) Know what the hell you are talking about
2) Ask yourself, have I considered point 1)
Or perhaps you should just follow the advice in your avatar.
