#4 California's the one to watch to determine the strength of the PAC-10. USC leads, and beat Michigan last year in the Rose Bowl. Anyone who thinks the blood&gore Big-10[11] isn't tough is delusional. Only one year has passed, and they're still unbeaten. USC is therefore very, very good....but is it the PAC-1-and-9, is the issue. Cal will face someone strong. #4 ranking, barring any loss at season end (is the season over for them? Not sure...), will insure that. If Cal were to lose badly to another major power, then there's a legitimate claim to the PAC being weaker...but still no right to say USC wouldn't be an exception.

In the end, there are two PAC-10 teams right now in the top four, on both polls. What does that mean.
