You may have had to report recieving it I can't remember but it didin't affect your tax return in anyway...that would defeat the purpose of the stimulus package in the first place.

personally i don't remember even getting a rebate ever to begin with but i think back in the day you shoulda reported it and it was considered ordinary income and raised up your gross pay...not 100% sure on that

this one says it doesn't affect it at all...i still wanna know where they are getting the money to pay for this

Isn't it a rebate on taxes not earned income?

1. Question: Do I have to pay taxes on the 2008 rebate?
Answer: No, the rebate is tax free.

its considered ordinary income i believe...

i said i think this rebate won't affect you...but the one back in 01 or 02 i think was kinda like a loan up front based on your tax return for the following year

Tax Talk: how to account for your 2001 tax rebate check on next year's return

Dear Tax Talk:
How do I account for my $600 rebate check (2001 advance payment check) on the 2001 tax return form? Will my refund next April be reduced by $600 because the check was an advance payment?
Tom Dear Tom:
You're very perceptive to realize that the rebate is an advance payment of your 2001 tax refund.

CNN.com - Some guidance on the tax rebate check - June 7, 2001

The Treasury Department points out that this is not officially a "rebate" ... it's an "advance payment" to taxpayers of money they would have gotten back from the government as a rebate when they filed their tax returns next April (for 2001).
Tax rebate was advance on 2001 tax reduction | New Orleans CityBusiness | Find Articles at BNET.com

Instead, it was an advance on the money that the federal government anticipated that you wouldn't have to pay for 2001 because of a tax reduction.
