Holy poo ssigs and rusty agreed it may snow!
The definition right there leaves open the door for all sports persona to be athletes. Ever watch an NFL lineman hit a golf ball? Thats typically hilarous. |

swinging a club isn't exactly what they are talking about when saying "agility". A guy in a wheel chair can do that. And strength? Ask Jim Furyk about strengh needed, he has none. Or that 6 year old kid with one eye who they featured on ESPN the other week.
People can have whatever opinion they want... i'm just pointing out that golfers don't fit the definition of an athlete. But you can have a different definition if you want. |

They do in fact fit the definition though...you make it sound like anyone can swing a golf club and be good at it. Whats your handicap? Fact is that physical qualities are needed to play golf...how good you are at it depends on how "atheltic" you are.
How hard is it to throw 10 - 20 pitches at a glove? Or to kick a ball off a tee? |

I have never considered golfers in general as athletes, although there are some good athletes that have been golfers. Tiger Wood is IMO the first really great athlete to excel at the pro game.
It is possible to be athletic in some things without being an athlete. Most of us have some athleticism yet we are not athletes. |

Tiger is an athlete. What about baseball players? They aren't all athletes, take John Kruk

We are giving our opinions of how the definition is interpretated. I see nothing wrong with disagreeing with each other. Seems pretty subjective to me. ![]() |

I thought you were when you said
i'm just pointing out that golfers don't fit the definition of an athlete. But you can have a different definition if you want. If I'm confusing this for a mere opinion, then I stand corrected. |

I too was under the impression that we were wrong in our assesment of an athelete vs. non-athlete by that statement.

Wow... i could have worded that better. Honestly, i just meant that i didn't think golfers met the definition of athletes, but you can have the opinion that they do. Really, I totally understand how you guys can think differently.
