Interesting
Well this is a HUGE ASS can of worms to open up.. I have not read any of the responses to the first response but will slide in with my 2 cents worth.. First off it was the fine US teams that started the heavy importing of foriegn talent by waving the almighty American dollar in front of the players faces..Why would you stay in Russia and make 7 ruples a game or come to America where you get $150K a game .. Its the same for most major sports.. Baseball, Basketball, Hockey.. even track and field.. and it all comes down to Money.. the Owners will do what they have to to field a winning team.. Not to many show up to a losing team night after night.. I have slowly seen the change in the NHL.. 20 yrs ago the league had half the teams they do now and the percentage of players was %70 Canadian.. %23 US and the rest foriegn.. ( numbers approx ) Now there are to many teams ( talent major watered down ) and %56 Canadian %32 US and rest foreign.. ( again numbers going from old tired brain so approx as well
What really pisses me off is these damn europeans that come sign the big contracts and then have one great season.. scream the only word they know in English called " renegotiate" get more money then play like 3rd liners till last year of contract. Will be interesting to see what happens to the NHL if they do go on strike.. Will it hurt the NHL as much as MLB saw and still sees ? Or will a shake up be just what the NHL needs to get more realistic contracts etc. Well thats all my rambling for this post.. may be wishy washy but heh.. at work and have to leave my PC so may not have kept true train of thought......

you can't pronounce Steve Nash?
and by the way Steve Nash played in college in the US at Santa Clara and is a guard not a seven footer. Who can't pronounce Dirk Nowitzki? With the exception of a "w" in german being pronounced with a "v" sound (which anyone who has ever watched Hogan's Heros would know) it is pronounced exactly like it sounds.

Ever seen Snatch or Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels? Both Guy Ritchie movies, both foreign and both fantastic. Nothing to do with basketball, but they don't speak english like we do in it and I love the different accents.

Dude, take it easy on the n00b. He doesn't understand. If I am correct, you have no problem with, say, a 7 foot Patrick Ewing, out of Georgetown, but you DO have a problem with, say, a 7 foot ???, out of the playground of another country. I agree. It is the NATIONAL basketball association. These are not global games and if they were, then Yao should be playing for the Tianemmen Tigers. Did I sum up well>

Crash_44, both great movies although I spent alot of time saying "what did he say?". LOL. BTW, this board is about OPINIONS. Does all this importing change the games? Yes. Do I like it? Only when it favors my team. Am I in favor of it? As a fan, I could complain or not. Who cares. From a business perspective, whatever makes a buck is fine by me. If they piss me off, they have another dozen suckers waiting to give their money behind me.

Toronto and Montreal don't count? And what are the names of the leagues? National and American. Now if the Venezuelan league applies for entry, I say, let 'em in!

But why is it called the World Series. ?? Should be called the North American Championship at best.. and the Expos play in Montreal ..lol.. but I am guessing in the winter they would prefer to be in Cuba hehehe.. as for the term National well.. its the National Football league.. the National Hockey league.. and yet Major League Baseball.. not National.. and if you do bend the meaning of National .. ( a group or groups of people who are governed by the same body ) then the NHL, NFL and the NBA do have their own board of governers so basically it could be labelled a National league
Bah.. let the players play and the minions pay $80 for nosebleeds and $10 a beer till SLAMBALL takes over... YIKES
