Ah, didn't have a clue about the other contracts. Didn't realize it wasn't all fully guaranteed. One thing I don't totally understand are NFL contracts, some of them can be quite goofy. So then it would seem like Russell is setting the bar quite high here. Asking for more money and 100% guaranteed unlike the others.

I'm no expert at all on the contracts and the loopholes...I guess you have to read the text of each one to know for real what is guarenteed and what is not even if it is stated as guarenteed money...the falcons are trying to recoup 22 mil of the 39 mil he's made on his 100+ mil deal...some of which I heard was "guaranteed" monies...Russell seems to be looking to avoid anything like that with his contract...if this is all true...the Russell is really not making a great case for himself in the league and only seems to be hurting himself.

The Falcons sent a letter out yesterday demanding it back. Goodell has offered the leagues help to recoup the money. I can see why teams might be getting nervous about guaranteeing some much cash with some of the things players do.

You're right daddy and its a fine line between the teams and the players on how to handle it. On the team side you don't want to empower them to much to take guarenteed money back since thats really the only money a player can count on and on the player side you don't want a bunch of law breaking players making millions cause its guarenteed.

Middle road agreements should be put in place but I am glad I don't have to make those decisions. However using the conduct policy to determine some of the ways to recoup money isn't a bad idea, within reason.

I think you need to define what will be guaranteed with injury money being guaranteed. I think in light of things some additional conduct policies will start getting written in.

In light of the Vick shit a lot of NFL changes could be on the way some more obvious than others.

well john clayton on mike and mike said they weren't close to a deal but had talks recently to try to find a middle of the road...not successfully though

if this was MLB, he'd have 80 million guaranteed....i hate guaranteed contracts..they handcuff the teams...aka jason giambi contract

i don't blame the raiders for standing pat
