Damn! You are correct, Sir. They should take away my plastic duck lips for this slip up. I guess I was thinking of Oregon's 2000 win over Texas in the Holiday Bowl.

Having grown up on the west coast and graduating from a Pac-10 school, the Rose Bowl is a part of our heritage. You think Texas gave a damn about the Rose Bowl other than its payout from the game? It dosen't matter who had a better record, this is the left coast's game. The Rose Bowl and the BCS sold it out from us. That's why it is so wrong to see the Longhorns in the Rose Bowl and a bunch of Texas shit kickers roaming around the Tournament of Roses Parade.

Unless you have lived here, you will not understand of what I speak.

Raider I agree with you on one thing, it was the Rose Bowl and the PAc-10 Big 10 that decided to join the BCS. What gets me is people blaming Texas for coming to Pasadena, saying that it is a break in tradition. A break in tradition is having anyone but the PAc-10 champion in the Rose Bowl, and as soon as USC accepted the bid to play in the national championship, tradition was broken. Cal would have been just as much out of place as Texas was..The funny thing is you won't find one person officialy associated with the Rose Bowl who is not happy about the way things played out, 65% of the crowd was wearing burnt orange, brining money to Pasadena for hotels, cars, etc, and leaving a game for the ages..........That being said, it still goes back to the Rose Bowl for agreeing to be part of the BCS, they could have just as easily turned down the money, had their own perogative about whom to invite and let the Cotton be the fourth BCS game..............................

...and then no team would have come accepted an invitation to the Rose Bowl if they were in the hunt for the NC. That was the whole thing. The Rose held out the longest from the BCS or BCA or whatever it initially was, as well as the sponsorship agreement. Remember, they wanted top billing over any commericial enterprise, "The Rose Bowl presented by AT&T". All the other bowls had the commercial enterprise listed first. "Nokia Sugar Bowl".

The Rose has ALWAYS been about tradition. It went grudginly accepted commercialism and entrance in to the "Coalition."

Do you really think, Rock, that the Rose could not have sold at least twice their allotment of tickets had Cal been playing? Texass was not invited. The Rose was basically forced to take Texass due to the BCS regulations.

The Cal fans would have brought just as much money and at least just as many T-shirts as Texass. The only difference would have been the color of the T-shirts.

I will give you one thing though. In all fairness, neither Colorado nor Nebraska deserved to be in that game against Miami. It should have been Miami and Orgeon (if you were to match up the two best teams that year) and it would have been one helluva game.

I thought my Buffaloes were pretty good that year and then they turn aorund and get there asses absolutely handed to them by Oregon... Tough loss but to a very, very good team.

Thank you Jtg33. In my 16 years as a Duck fan, that 2002 Fiesta Bowl was the best, most complete, dominate game I have ever seen an Oregon team play. Thanks for no hard feelings.

I could handle the Rose Bowl selling out if it were to be part of a true national championship playoff format. However, for the Rose Bowl to sell its history, it soul, and it's honor for the bullshit BCS fiasco, that makes the sell out all the more painful.

No problem dude. Hell, CU got pretty lucky to get there in the first place. Whipping Nebraska when they were #1 in the BCS, slipping past Texas in the Big XII title game... Everyone around here was thrilled we were going to one of the biggest four bowls in the country. We were pissed off that nNbraska got the nod to get into the title game over us, but after we all saw how badly Nebraska played and got killed by Miami, we didn't mind quite so much.

Plain and simple, the Oregon Ducks were the better team that day.

No I don't think Cal would have surpassed 66% or even gotten up to it. They probably would have sold out their allotment, and maybe a few more. I love how it's the BCS fault that the Rose Bowl invited Texas, but somehow it's not the Rose Bowl and the PAC 10's fault for getting in bed with the BCS in the first place.........

Either way all that this comes down to at this point is sour grapes. The University of Texas Longhorns were invited to the BCS Rose Bowl Game. The University of Texas Longhorns are now the official 2005 ROSE BOWL CHAMPIONS. The Cal Bears are officially runner ups in both the PAC 10 and the Holiday Bowl, gettting blown out of a game in their home state against a team that Texas demolished in their own stadium. Whether you wanted it or not, they deserved to be there, were there, and took care of business while they were there.

Really funny hearing a Texass fan comment on sour grapes. Isn't that why Lil Mackie was whining in the first place?

Okay, you have your point and I have mine and they are different. No big deal.
