I figured it was a typo, that's why I let it slide. Just a pet peave of mine. //shrugs.

Nice work though, I am curious to see the outcome of this one.

I have to give the slight edge to Jays here for making this so very close with his Coffey pick with Messier being the obvious choice in reality.
I think Nick may have missed an opportunity in not giving Mario and the Penguins offense much of the credit for Coffey's Cup and success in Pittsburgh.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We have a DRAW!!!!!

Ok, as I stated before, when there's a draw, we go to the rebuttal round and and see who won that round on the judges scorecards. Whoever comes out on top of that will win!!!

Judge 1: 50-47 Nick (30-29 Nick--Rebuttal Round)
Judge 2: 48-48 Draw (29-28 Nick--Rebuttal Round)
Judge 3: 48-46 Btown (29-27 Btown--Rebuttal Round)

Therefore, the winner is....NICK IN DALLAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you can see, this was an extremely close battle!!!! Unbelievably close!!!!

Judges Comments

Nick: I think you did a great job. Personally, I don't care for Messier, and I would not have chosen him, but I left that out of it, and felt you did a sound job of defending him. Your rebuttal was slightly less solid than your competitors, with the emphasis on the word "slightly".

Jay: You continue to impress the shit out of me. Your article didn't excite me the way that I had hoped it would, but your rebuttal was nothing short of fantastic. Nice work.

Nick, you eeked it out by demonstrating that Messier was effective longer into his career. A great career is determined by championships, and then longevity...and it looks like you demonstrated that very effectively.

Btown, your article and rebuttal were excellent. You went with the less popular choice and did a fantastic job!!!

The number of games played and the leader point pushed Nick over the top, IMO. Also, the "thumb and forefinger" illustration helped in Style. Btown had a great point about Coffey being traded to teams going for the playoffs

Congrats Nick!!! Good luck in the finals! This should be a good match-up to see who is the P/CP champion.

I have proved to myself that I can at least hang with everyone here, so i will definitly be down for another competition.

Thanks to the judges and Avery for doing a great job judging and keeping this thing running smoothly and keeping it fun. My score for the judges is

Congratulations Nick and I will root for you in the finals, but this comment above proves sometimes even the judges don't get it right and apparently forget the topic.Messier was effective longer into his career but more of his years were in Edmonton. The topic dealt with their career after Edmonton. With Messier leaving Edmonton later, this point is negated.
Both players had the same amount of effective years after Edmonton.
Both players won 1 Cup after Edmonton, but your above comment indicates
Messier won more.
Longevity-Both players played about 13 seasons after they left Edmonton
Sorry judges, but you botched this one.

Number of games played? Messier played in 28 games more than Coffey after Edmonton. This is not significant.

Btown,

Thanks for the compliments, and I'm sure you will be highly ranked so there will be many people trying to hunt you down.

Rusty,

I think that both contestants did a great job arguing their points & the judging reflects that. It was a draw, & had to go to the rebuttal round to decide the victor. I think that the judges did a good job deciding on a very difficult topic.

Thank you to Jay and the judges!! Jay you had a great piece there! Keep up the good work.

Rusty - I'm not sure where I said that Mark won more than one, in fact I think that I pointed out that they each won 1. Mark did have 1 more individual award though. And I felt Mark was more effective in his later years(check the last 4 years) than was Coffey, hence the longevity nod.

In any case, thanks again to all.

Nick, you are right.I don't mean to fault you, just the judging. the reasons Aveosmth gives
for your win,I just can't validate in my mind.My critisism lies strictly on the judges(well 2 of them anyway),not you.
Aveosmith's basis for your win was not relative to the topic but more his career as a whole and that is my beef.
