Err, ummm, Pete Rose did admit he bet on baseball. Remember that big 60 minutes program that he did?

i believe he did...i am mistaken....doesn't mean he shouldn't get a second chance...many others have

you said he should be inducted the day he dies....you're basically saying he belongs but he should be able to have the satisfaction of being around for it.....the land of second, third and fourth chances.....except for pete rose

He isn't in MLB anymore. How do you possibly give him a second chance? And how would we know that he is not messing this so called second chance up?

You're saying lot of athletes get away with breaking the rules,so lets grandfather Pete Rose in.Back in the day,Pete Rose had plenty of chances to make his wrong right with MLB,but he insisted he did nothing wrong.He used up his second, third and fourth chances.

oh please...i'm not saying grandfather him back in...i'm saying his accomplishments are 100% hall of fame worthy and so many people and the sport itself has messed up that he deserves a second chance to prove himself just like the others...you can't say he'll screw it up casue you can't predict the future...

and he had his chances?? so did rafael palmeiro but he lied to congress....but its ok that he can play again and is still eligible for the hof....barry bonds has had numerous opportunities to come clean...if he's ever found guilty of performance enhancing drugs, will you say the same about him as you say about pete rose....the fact is, the commissioner banned him for life and not they blackballed any chance he had to get in since....

I would say these same things about players who were proven to be guilty using steriods as well. Palmero's numbers are good enough to get him into the hall of fame... however i'm willing to bet you he never gets in (by listening to what the voters have to say) because of the steriods.

I'm not saying Pete would screw it up, i'm saying we will never know if he screwed it up or not. Again i ask, what kind of second chance could we give him at this point? See if he bets on his team that he no longer has?

Also Shoeless Joe Jackson wasn't allowed into the hall of fame over gambling too. He wasn't given a second chance. MLB takes that stuff very seriously and they should. Jackson didn't even throw the series and actually had a very good series. He just happened to not turn down the money.

You can see that actions that happen on the field are starting to be frowned upon more and more. With the harsher steriod penalties, I wouldn't be suprised if in the future you will not be allowed into the hall if found with a positive test.
