What is done to encourage new members to post?

Would it make sense to have an initial post as part of the sign up process? A seperate block where they would tell us their sports likes and dislikes.

Could you have a small survey as part of the process that would serve as their initial post? We could then respond and maybe they would respond back?

Am I just being to simple here?

Sure that could be required but they may post once and never come back. All along the way we have had many new posters start posting and then disappear. It used to be required that you had to be a member to see the pics but that was done away with I think. Mike has tried contests and everything he can think of to bring in new people. Next year I think the picks contest will only be for contributing members, which I agree with.

It seems like people don't see how great a place this is to post at and sign up and never come back, yet they deal with boards with a million posters and all the crap that comes with being a "newbie", something we have never shunned anyone for. Ugh I wish for Mike sake I had more answers.

I have tried everything in the book to try and get new members. I have always been open to changes, ideas or whatever is needed to get more members here. I firmly believe that sportsrant.com has a future and will continue to slowly grow. I know that I cannot keep funding things here unless the revenue picks up (by no means does this mean that anything will happen here, sportsrant is not going anywhere). this is more geared towards the picks contest

Like Jay said, we have tried contests with and without money, t-shirt giveaways, and others.

I am willing to try anything to increase the number of posters. While I want that, i do not want this to explode into the ESPN boards by all means

I throughly enjoy the posters here currently and all the support that you have given to me over the last few years. It is unforutnate that my new job has really limited my abilites to admin this site in a lot of manners.

Anything that I can do, I will, you all know that, let's work together

Remember > for the members, by the members

Myspace is a good idea. I am supposed to be on there as part of my job(believe it or not). I got the process started but have not followed through.

I'm not sure what you want me to explain. Myspace seems like a good idea because of the huge amount of people that use it.

I am supposed to use it because I run a community service oriented Health & Fitness facility. It is considered a way to stay up to date with what young people are thinking and doing and gives us something in common these them. It also increases our visibility with that demographic.

Yes contradiction is what makes life interesting. I am a walking contradiction. The life I lead now is the polar opposite of the life I once led.

I sometimes wake up and fell that I am the star of a Twilight Zone Episode.
