This was never about how much work was done. It's about whether or not it's a sport.

What does the pit crew have to do with whether or not it is a sport?

And I think no more or less then at any other time in my life.

Here's a question though. Why don't you try proving that it is a sport? And not just driving.

Hey mr. short term memory loss, let me quote you." but it doesn't change the fact that the car/horse is doing most of the work, along with the fact that the 'athlete' is just sitting there." You brought up "work" not me.

You've got to be kidding me.It's a team. The pit crew is part of the race.Their
performance in a major way, determines the outcome of the race.

Steering,Shifting gears,operating gas,clutch,brake pedals,physical endurance
all are physical activities....FACT. The Pit crew's work is obviously physical.
Hopefully, you can see the competition aspect without me proving that too.

I'm going to give you the benefit of doubt and assume you are just messing with me and really aren't as confused as your post indicates.

NASCAR is most definetly sport. Although not my preferred brand of racing I can never understand how one can argue that it is not a sport. Yes the driver gets most of the accolades but it takes a determined owner and an entire team of people to make the cars competitive at the highest levels. Pit crews are deffo part of the team as a disastrous pit stop can have huge ramifications on the outcome of the race.

Marketing is part of every sport, every sport has sponsors who dump loads of money in the various sport. I think racing just gets hit harder by nonfans on this because the cars and drivers display their sponsors brands right up front.

No, you need rules and an opponent to make it a sport.

So, if you walk vs grandma to the post its a sport.

Also, technically if you are both in wheelchairs and race its a sport. So... thats weird

True.

And you would have to number yourself and peel the label off a Budweiser bottle
and tape it to your shirt or wheelchair so you will have a sponsor.

Rusty I think we are about 5 or 6 posts away from the greatest sport since Extreme Raking.

It'll be called Chairin', the best part is EVERYONE can do it. Even the kid with cerebal palsy. (So mean, and yet so funny. Until of course someone says how they know someone with cerebal palsy and i feel like a douche, but until then I laugh at it.)

If we can get onto ESPN 2 instead of the useless 'sports' on Sunday mornings at like 5-9 am I think itll be the best new thing EVER.

Oh yeah.I like it.Imagine a road course in San Franciso .I mean a few people will surely die going down those hills, but we will make millions. Then a figure 8
smash up derby. We'll have to install engines for thrilling high speed crashes.

You just proved your ignorance. NASCAR drivers and race horse jockeys are some of the best athletes on the planet. If they were not, then why isn't everyone doing what they do?

Now I wouldn't go as far as saying they are some of the best athletes, lets not kid ourselves. Are they in top shape? Of course, NASCAR races can take a lot out of a person. But how far would you have to stretch the definition of athlete to put them as some of the best?

What can Jeff Gordon do better athelticly than i can? Could he beat me in basketball, baseball, hockey, tennis or swimming? Probably not. All of which take more athletism (sp) than NASCAR. NASCAR drivers have endurance and physical stregnth... but you realize you don't even need legs to be a driver?

Don't need legs? How many times are they stepping on the clutch in a 3 hour race?

They are some of the "best" athletes IMO. I have only known one NASCAR driver, but I have known many jockeys. Probably no less than 100. They are athletes, make no mistake about it.

It's tough to say what sport produces the best athlete. I have a friend that is a little skinny 5' 6" white guy, that can and has beat a former NFL player at basketball. So who is the better athlete?
