i don't particularly care for our war generals..i tend to find them with a superiority complex when it comes to putting our soldiers into a fight...take d-day for an example...we amass one of the largest invasion plans ever...shoving our troops in the most densly protected areas...i believe it was south of the landing force, british troops landed with minimal attack and secured the beach quick...yet our generals once again throw us in the line of fire...its how it is now, it's how it was then and its how it was from the start

I don't see how you can blame our generals for that, it was an allied invasion plan drawn up by all countries invovled. The largest of its kind ever. To land 3 million soliders successfully you have to use all available beach to do so. The naval and aerial bombardments were supposed to be more affective than they were on the defenses and the fact that the airborne drop in didn't go as expected did help either.
All kinds of factors led to our high casualty rate, I don't see how the generals can be blamed for that. Were the germans supposed to cut tail and run? |

what i'm saying is despite that the fact that it was an "allied" attack...the US generals had a superiority complex and they felt they could go right up the center of fortifications and take it...they allowed the other allied countries to attack less populated beaches...so yea maybe they coulda divided the forces up between the countries...most of the center was american...we had some north and south but the concentration of troops were middle...these were untested soldiers being thrown to the wolves...
i agree the bombardment didn't work as well as it should of and the landings didn't go perfect cause again, most were untested pilots and couldn't stay on course cause of the anti-aircraft fire....planning goes a long way..execution is the key...i blame the generals for putting the soldiers in that situation.... |
