Bil, wasn't there a two fold "fake" plan that they successfully convinced the germans was real both the pasppsa you mentioned and another one north?

Also Allied intelligence reported what German forces that would be in the area were pretty weak divisions comprised of rag tag soliders, they didn't know that the only battle proven group that was moved in only days before the attack would be on Omaha beach which is where we suffered such high casualties. Most of the other beaches if secure were secured with the loser soliders, a lot of which weren't even german I don't think. The canadians beach also was bloody and they suffered big losses too.

I guess I just don't agree with totally blaming the generals involved.
you completely got that thought from the history channel cause i saw that show

lets not forget...the brits might not of wanted us to command the whole show but they sure as heck needed us to be in this war if they wanted to win it...with that thought and the americans brash attitude...of course they'll allow us to lead the charge so to speak...forgettin all the outside factors, we thought we could just show up and win this war based on our name and size of the army....the generals did not lead...they came up with a plan and stuck to it....with all else meaning nothing...weather, success of bombardment, how many or what kind of troops were implanted in france, etc...they were bullheaded and overrated

i saw the show that you took it from...talk now about how the germans didn't have sufficient reserves cause one of there upper level leaders wasn't there...and the only real reserve squad they had was a panzer division...sound familiar from your "reading"?

The brits were trying to get us in the war long before we ever even considered it. You're right ssigs, they needed us but not really wanted us. We occupied Greenland and shared the occupation of iceland with them to help secure the shipping lanes, the the japs bombed pearl harbor and we loaded our guns so to speak.

No ssigs I was not going to go there, is it so hard to imagine that I read this information in various books because I in fact like history?

See ssigs, this was a good factual discussion/debate and just because you feel I don't know shit, you had to go and pull that out of your ass and try to degrade any and all knowledge I had, rather than just presenting your pov. You act like this knowledge is inherited not gained by reading and enjoying a subject. I know its hard to comprehend, but some people actually know stuff just like you.

The allies deked the germans with pattons phony army that was supposed to invade at the channells shortesest crossing point Pa-de-Calais. They also deployed small (2 ft tall) dolls with parachutes and firecrackers that folled the germans foe a short while.

A note on generals leading. Generals plan but seldom actually lead. The 4th Division did in fact land at the wrong location, but moved inland anyway. Battles are won not by generals but by grunts, D-Day was a success because of the action of Sgts, cpts, lys and pvts. The allies won because at company level they out-performed the germans.
