How did we get so far in soccer that year? We actually had a pretty good team, we were in one school board, and roughly half the HSs were in another school board. Never saw each other (in any sport) until city finals. Anyway, in soccer the other school board probably had 3 or 4 teams that would kick ass over any of us in our half the city. So the winner from 'our side' would basically be a sacrificial offering to the soccer gods from the city core who always won the city. Hope that made sense?

I was on what was called a midget league football team(9-12 yrs under 125 lbs). Our team was the Lions and we never won a game in three years. That really sucked.

I could never play football, i was always far too light. My senior year of high school i was 5'9 and wrestled 125 pounds. I would have been eaten alive on any high school football field. I could have however, played for that 9-12 year old team Bil was talking about. As a 17 to 18 year old, i probably would have done well. lol

I mean no offense to the Wiz at all... he just had a great post, so he should do more posting.

It's funny, I remember the years I played brutal on teams or great teams best. It's the years on middle of pack teams, which is most years, that are fuzzier in my memory bank. My memories of the bad years are just as special to me if not more so.
My very first year of hockey, I was 7 or 8, my mite hockey team played all year without a win, until the last game of the year. I think we played about 25 games. I also went that whole season without a goal until the third last game, my very first goal was the most feeble goal ever. I had the puck at center (very rare for me to even touch the puck that year, I kind of skated in circles all the time usually in the opposite direction that the play was going), had no clue what to do with it so I just dumped it towards the other team's goal. The puck was hardly moving by the time it got the goalie, but he tried to just pounce on it and somehow missed it and it trickled in - it was going so slow it only made it about an inch across the goalline and died. Didn't matter, I think the smile on my face didn't disapper for a week! Only goal I ever scored from my behind center too (except for empty netters).

Yay, someone else who was small in HS - I never broke 5 feet until grade 11 and didn't get over 100 pounds until grade 13 (damned Ontario and their extra year of HS). I could have played for Bil's midget football team at 17 too!

Damn Klicks, you were a small kid! I walked around at about 145 during the off season but cut to 125 during the season. Looking back on it, i really should have just wrestled higher... i looked like death.

And a goal is a goal. No matter how pretty it was Klicks, it still counts as one point on the scoreboard. So you can just tell people it was just like Ovechkins falling down sliding behind the back goal.

here's a funny story

i ran track..i did it cause it was fun to hang out with my friends, check out girls from other schools and i was semi-fast...well my coach mistakenly took my p.r.(personal record) time from a 200 meters relay i ran earlier in the year...one where i made the guy run 220 meters instead of 200 so my time was quick..unfortunately too quick cause they put me in the fastest heat in counties...i was with guys i had no business running with and it showed..they passed me in the first turn and i came in dead last..i almost stopped running thats how bad i got beat...here they are running 21 seconds when me best time was nowhere near that
