I wont pretend to know many guys on that team, but the few I do know make me hope we don't lose to them by 3 goals.
Either of these games worth watching tonight? Peru vs. Uraguay Venezuela vs. Bolivia |

Last nights games weren't bad from what I got to see. However, nothing like the worst two ranked teams in the tourney being in the same group and playing each other 1st.
70th ranked Venezuela tied 92nd ranked Bolivia 2-2. and.. 64th ranked Peru upset 30th ranked Uruguay 3-0. What a crap group that is. Its a shame two teams have to come out of there. Tonight is ... #44 Ecuador vs. #53 Chile and #3 Brazil vs. #26 Mexico. Should be better tonight. *Yeah, i like world rankings, they are fun. |

So should I totally ignore the world rankings then? (serious quesiton) How else do I find out which of these teams are good or not? I mean becides Argentina, Brazil, USA and Mexico of course, but the rest are pretty much lumped all together to me.
I'm going to try to catch the Brazil/Mexico game tonight if I can. I won't suck to see Mexico lose again. |

Ummmm, errrrr, LOL! GO BRAZIL!
I'm sure they will be good enough to get through, but i'm thinking they didn't exactly want to start out getting blanked by Mexico. USA vs. Argentina tonight... i'm hoping we score a goal. |

rankings are kinda shady cause they are based on past tournament and what not over a long span of time....but its a good gauge on what teams are good...

Since when do ghosts have shifts?

Interesting match against Argentina last night.
The US started out brightly and took the lead through a Eddie Johnson penalty. The Argies levelled quickly though as Hernan Crespo bundled home a free kick that came loose in the area. The first half ended 1-1 and I was quite surprised. The second half was a bit different. To me it all changed when the Argies brought on Pablo Aimar, always one of my favorite players although he has never shone that brightly at the international level. Anyhoo, after that change it seemed the Argies began to find their attacking legs and began to come at the US defense with a fury. Ultimately it ended 4-1 to Argentina but to be honest all the goals that the Argies scored were very high quality. The fact that this US team had barely been together for only a few days makes it easier to understand how the Argies eventually did wear down what had been a pretty decent US defense. Players who caught my eye for the US were Bornstein who continues to impress. Eddie Johnson who was wonderful. Benny Feilhaber's ball that released Johnson in order to get the penalty was a thing of world class talent. Conrad and DeMerit in central defense were good but it seemed like they ran out of gas late on especially after the Argies subbed on Carlos Tevez. Marvell Wynne played well for his first cap, right now he is young enough that if he gets beat he still has the speed to catch back up. That's OK for now but he needs to keep developing because that pace will not last forever. So Bob Bradley tastes defeat for the first time as the US National coach. It was kind of expected in this match but their were enough positives to be taken out of it in order for him to build something for the next two games against Paraguay and Colombia. PS I want to see Brad Guzan in the net next match, Keller was tremendous in his day but maybe his day has come and gone. GO USA!

Matt Reis should have gone along with the club.
BUT, this is sort of how I figured the game going... we just didn't take the right club to be competitive against the Argentina's, Brazil's, etc. I just hope we make it out of the group stage. |

Right now we sit 3rd in the group. Paraguay broke it off in Colombia's butt 5-0 so that helped our cause. We just need to get some kind of result against Paraguay, not an easy task given how they played against Colombia. I do think this group can at least draw against Paraguay and then get a win against Colombia.

Plus, i believe that 2 3rd place teams advance as well... so we really only need to finish 3rd and not be the worst 3rd place team. I think we will advance, but thats pretty much it. But like you (i think it was you) said before, the obvious goal was to win the Gold Cup and give the kids good international experience.
