Injuries occur to suddenly and seriously for a minor league to work even for second tier players. That is the purpose of the practice and travel squads.

how about they make it a second tier with the top 2 teams advancing to the nfl and the two teams with the worst record moving down...like how they do it in soccer...then the teams that move get rewarded with the top 2 picks

you're right BaldBil, the only way it might work is if they used it more like a developmental league and did not permit player movement up or down during the season. I suppose you could argue that the Euro NFL is already doing that and even the CFL to some extent. Regarding the big networks - maybe Cuban will try to broadcase strictly via the net and/or cable. Little early for the net approach but he does like to try different approaches.

cool concept Ssigs - might be a little cutting edge for the staid NFL though. Mind you - it's a safer way to expand the NFL, maybe it would work. I guess the one thing we don't know is if Cuban really wants to compete with the NFL or if he just wants more football. If it's not about being a rebel (for him), I think he'd be wise to approach the NFL with something like your concept.

Well lets just wait and see what Cuban come up with. A spring developmental league may work but I don't think Cuban is a small time type of guy.

he's gotta start out small cause the interest level won't be there like it is for the nfl...see mls as an example of a league building slowly...after 10 years, its now starting to get bigger...soccer only stadiums, bringing in bigger name players, etc...

I agree in theory ssigs that Cuban should build slowly, and the MLS example is appropos. However sumthin tells me he ain't built that way.
