Hope you're right guys. Joni is so damned frustrating - can look so good one minute and so poor the next. I'm hoping last year was due to lost confidence - and the general malaise on the Flyers until the last quarter of the season or so. I'm guessing he hasn't moved yet becuse teams figure he's ion the dog house and are trying to get a steal but Holmgren is smarter than that and sees the potential - so he'll hold onto Pitkonen unless the right deal shows up. I like what I've seen so far in Holmgren - think he's the right guy to put the right pieces together to put the Flyers back to the top.

Well as we have pointed out....Joni is dumb as a door knob and thats putting down door knobs so his lack of strength in play could be a direct result of just not playing smart which he apparently can't do well. Who knows.
I think the NHL is setting itself up for rough, troubled times (again) with how these salaries are running wild (again). |

Good call on the troubled times - obviously the cap wasn't enough to cause the owners/managers to start using some common sense. The whining from the 'small town' markets should start anytime now - hmmm, maybe Joni is a future NHL manager? |

My new theory on Joni is that with how shitty the team played last year...he thought with all those brains of his that he was supposed to play as bad or worse than the rest of the guys...so it actually makes sense.
As long as the team plays stellar hockey next year...Joni will be a stud! |

Believe me, there is no way in hell Gomez is worth 7.8 million under a salary cap. |

The difference is, they didn't bring in any old high priced guys like the Rags, other than Timonen. But Timonen is still a top 5 d-man. Their whole core of players are under 25 years old (except Gagne who just turned 27). They brought in how much youth towards the end of last season and the off season. There is what, 2 older guys on their top 3 lines (Knuble and Kapanen)... its really not the same.

I agree. I see more of a youth movement and building a team for the future, not a win it all now bring in a bunch of high priced veterans mentality, so it would be contrary to this philosophy to bring in Gomez at that price and cause cap problems later.I'll be very disappointed if they overpay for Gomez.
The Timonen,Hartnell deal was just too good to pass up. |

You know, if the cap continues to go up, that wouldn't even be that horrible of a signing for Gomez. I mean even he's still only 27, and we will have a huge group of young talent signed for a pretty long time. Thats what its going to cost to get any #1 center in the game today. Thats just the way it is in the market.
