I was thinking they could do that as well. Its just the playmaking Gomez would fit so well on that top line between Gagne and Knuble. If they wait, I want them to try to sign Forsberg for one year to fill the void.

I like what the flyers are doing...sure some are high priced FA's but not old ones save one thus far. I was concerned with the money from the preds deal but that is more of a worry for the NHL as a whole not the Flyers I think.

Didn't Gomez miss a ton of games last year with an injury? How is that and what affect would that have on the future any one know? (I certianly don't read about ANY devils players)

I really want a top tier center without injury problems on this team and hope they figure out a way to make it happen with one of the availables. If they do wait whos topping out lists as UFA the next year?

Gomez games played in his career, starting with year one...

82, 76, 76, 80, 80, 82, 72 <---- I'll take that from anyone.

And about UFA for next season, its impossible to tell. Every year the FA pool looks better for the following year. But what you can never tell is who will be re-signed throughout the year, or who will be traded to a team who is going to sign them long term. Last season, this year looked like it was going to be a great FA off season... didn't turn out that way.

Next season, you have Thornton, Iginla, Nasland, Rolston, Morrison, Marleau, Heatley, Rolston. But there is probably few of them that will just be let go for nothing.

Maybe it was a different devil i was thinking about from last year that missed a lot of time.

Anywhoo...my opinion...sign one of the top tier guys this year. Too many unknowns to wait around till next year I think as long as we can make the cap work and not hurt the team in years to come.

Alot of rumors are saying Drury to San Jose is looking better and better... if thats the case, they will have to deal either Thornton or Marleau since they are both up for FA at the end of the year. I'd rather not have to give up players that we need to get a #1 center, so that throws two centers off of that upcoming UFA list right away.

I'm with Beers here, sign someone proven now if you can, you could get royally screwed if you wait.

I'm fine with it as long as it's not more than 6 million.

I doubt any of the top centers available could be signed for less than 6...prolly impossible.

I am concerned that what close to 20 mil will be tied up in 3 players for a number of years, however a few mil that should offset at least one of the bigger contracts should become available when the likes of the Goats, Sanderson etc are out of here.

Jay would probably know the details better but won't we have to pay some of the younger guys (if they stay) to much bigger contracts during the course of those 5 - 6 years of the big contracts just signed? I just don't want a cap mess of players if this team is not really ready to be above a middle tier playoff team.
