I couldn't disagree more with #1, but no big deal... at least sig can't call me an "i agree, i agree" man today.

However, you do make a good point about SOG's. What SOG"s will do will make defenseman actually more useful than before. Lots of d-men gets shots on goal on the PP or from the point... which create other chances for the forwards. BUT, they get assists when their shots set up other players goals.

I think the highest total of SH pts by a player last year was 11 then something like 9 and then after that a billion players with 2-5 SH pts...probably compared to GWG's I bet its similar numbers in most cases. I guess I don't like the idea of either GWG or SHP but not sure if both can be replaced with anything better.

I just don't like the idea of awarding points for trying to score when you didn't. I know assists are just a pass and I'd prefer primary assists but they are a huge part of scoring in the NHL. With Jays comment...a non double digit goal scoring or assist D man could become much more valuable cause they get to take shots on goal.

I don 't know what other categories there are so i guess we're kind of llimited in what we can choose from.

On the otherhand, getting the puck on net is important. They produce rebounds and offensive zone face offs.

Again with SOG a player with 20 shots but no points for the week can be more valuable to a team than a stud scoring player who gets 8 goals and 8 assists for the week. Thats like giving field goal kickers points for misses/blocks.
To me SHP are much better than GWGs. First, because they only go to players who are good enough to actually play shorthanded. Make players like St. Louis and Brindamour even more valuable compared to similar players who aren't good enough definsively to play the PK. Shorthanded goals are rare, but when they do happen, they usually cause a huge momentum swing. Much moreso than the third goal in the first period that ends up as the game winner.

Shots on goal is just one category. WHoever has more for the week gets one win. Just like whoever has more goals or more assists will get one win for each. Again, I have mixed feelings about shots on goal. I've never actually been in a league that used it, but it is now a yahoo default setting. Maybe replace it with something like faceoffs won? Though the downside to that is that every team will try to load up on centers.

And Satan, are you sure "SOG" is shots on goal, not "shoot out goals". I just want to make sure, lol... i will never be in any league that has stats that has to do with the shootouts.
It definitely means shots on goal. It is the new yahoo default. I wouldn't mind getting rid of it though and either replacing it with something else or going back to PIM (even though PIM is dumb in the new NHL, at least it's fairly predictable).

I agree that SHP are better than GWG, personally both categories blow but oh well.

I'm finally all signed up... not long til i own you all!

But really, im okay with whatever stats you pick Satan... my only request would be to get rid of PIM's. Like you said, they are useless in the current NHL.

It is sad. Before you would win that catagory because of your fighters. Now, you win it because of the STUPID instigator rule and game misconducts.
