J.J. Redick

As if America didn't hate Redick enough, he goes on Sports Center to bitch and moan about opposing fans giving him shit...In other words, fulfilling their main duty as fans. If he had to change his cell number five times last season, I hope he now has to change it ten times this season. If some fan made a sign about having sex with his little sister, * **** ** ***** *** ***** * ****** ***** *** *** ** *** **** ******* ***** ******** and mails them to Redick. Honestly, it's a known fact that KU coaches and players get numerous abusive phone calls from Mizzou fans, but do they whine about it? No. It's Mizzou. It's expected. If they didn't do it, KU people would probably start to worry about them.

What did Redick expect to accomplish by pulling this stunt? It's not like some "Crack Down on Drugs" campaign that America would actually rally around. Those who like him, will still like him. Those who didn't care about him in the first place, still won't care. Those who hate his guts, make signs, and scream obscenities at him will continue to do so. Only now they will have more material and malice than ever. Good thinking Redick, you poetry-writing fairy.

Does anyone else see a problem with the best player on Duke (a team with the most obnoxious fans in college basketball) complaining about other team's fans?

Opinions?

In general I think college basketball fans are some of the worst in all of American sports (I say American to leave out some of those soccer fans in Europe). They're obnoxious and often mean-spirited about some of the things they say about other players. Many times it gets VERY personal. You don't see that at any pro games or college football games.

And it's not like Redick's Duke fans are any better.

But calling a guy's cell phone? Out of bounds. It's stupid and sophomoric and classless. Just leave the guy alone and boo him when he gets on the court.

Pros? What about Boston fans in the NBA playoffs a couple years back after Kidd was accused of beating his wife? Or what about Philly fans throwing batteries at J.D. Drew and cheering Michael Irvin as he lay on their pathetic excuse for a football field? Have you ever been to a Chiefs game when Denver or Oakland is in town (or a Denver or Oakland game with the Chiefs in town)? It happens alot more than you think.

The only advantage other sports have over college basketball is that in football and baseball stadiums, the fans aren't nearly as close to the action and players. And in the NBA, very few fans are a passionate (or out of control) about their teams as young (and sometimes drunk) college students are.

My biggest beef with this situation is that Redick goes to Duke. If he played for Gonzaga or some little innocent school like that, who's fans are for the most part tame, I would feel for him. But any player on a top notch program with fans such as his, should expect this thing. And if he's smart enough to go to Duke, he should have been smart enough to handle this differently.

So because he was good enough to be recruited by one of the nation's top basketball programs, he deserves to be treated like crap by opposing fans AWAY from the court?

Rock is an unknown quantity at this point
I think its ludicrous that anyone from Dook could ever whine about fans, I mean the freaking crazies threw panties at a Maryland player accused of sexual assault in the 80's, get over it, however I will say as a big brother I could take alot of stuff, but calling out my little sister would be over the line..........especially since JJ's little sis is 12..

Yeah, that's about all he can really complain about, but still, complaining about it on Sports Center won't solve anything.

Also, this ESPN interview pretty much told all opposing fans that they do one hell of a job in getting into Redick's head. If he thinks this will stop them from doing so, he is completely wrong. It can only get worse now that they know they drive him crazy.

Crash, I pretty much agree with everything you wrote....except for the part about the kids sister. IMO, YOU REALLY SHOULD EDIT THAT! That is over the line on your part.

Fans screaming, booing, etc. at an opposing player is par for the course. The best players can tune them out and concentrate on their job.

Like Rock said, Duke fans aren't above this.

By going on TV all Redick did is exacerbate the problem.

Personally, I don't have any problem trying to get in to a players head, even calling him on the phone I don't have much problem with....screen your calls, change your number, whatever you have to do. But getting personal with family memebers is way over the line and security should be pointed to those people and remove them from the arena.

No problem. I had second thoughts about putting it in the first place. Guess I should have listened to them.

It wouldn't surprise me if Redick won POY, although Duke may or may not even be in the Top 10 by the end of the season and will probably get knocked out of the tourney early due to their lack of depth.
