Jumping On The Steriod Bandwagon
A new Sports Illustrated article came out yesterday, once again turning to the steroid scandal in baseball. SI writer, Richard (Dick) Hoffer, has jumped on the steroid bandwagon. Why now are all these members of the media coming out and making these statements, “Bonds needs to retire before he...

We won't truly know if this steroid thing has affected the fans until the season begins, and even then we won't know across the league - only in New York and San Francisco. I personally haven't had my opinion changed by the revelations from the BALCO grand jury testimony and Jose Canseco's book, but then again there are really only a couple of really good players in Denver and all their stats are already aided by the thin air... And it appears that I've run off on a tangent.
It'll be interesting to see what happens as a result from the new MLB drug policy. If players start getting caught taking steroids, then maybe fans across the league will begin to demand that this all come to a stop. Maybe - only maybe - if all that starts happening, we might see a shift in the game and the mindset of the players. I certainly would be disappointed if I found out one of my favorite players was using steroids, but it wouldn't radically change my impression of the game or the players in it. |

I really dont think that it will affect the fans at all!! It seems to be only affecting these midea writers. Everyone new in the back of their minds that Bonds and others were taking steroids. But to come out and write about it after the release of Canseco's Book and this bitch that spilled her guts on River'a show, well is assinine if you ask me. Did this writer really give a shit 3 years ago, has he ever written an article like this before or is is main hobby writing about the dog races in Miami.

The media is only crazy about this because, as you said, they're all jumping on the bandwagon. Steriods are the hot button in baseball right now, and everybody with half a brain is trying to get their opinion across to whoever will read it. This is even a big thing in the US government - Dubya was pushing Major League Baseball to further crack down on this issue, since it's a "moral dilemma" for future generations across the country.
The steroids issue isn't going to go away until the media can find a scapegoat to blame and prosecute until they're sure that they've saved the day and rid the sport and all sports of all steroids forever. |

Undoubtedly. Once the whole BALCO trial is settled, there will probably be even more information for the media to deal with, and even more questions will arise.
And congrats on 9,000 posts Mikey. |
