College Sports This forum is about some weird social strata involving brow-beating, bragging, one-upsmanship and self-proclaimed superiority. Not necessarily involving athletics.

Suspending Chaney was right move

I mean, Bob Knight never had any player intentionally hurt.

Sending in a "goon" to beat on an opposing player? Shouldn't a HC have more restraint than that? Is this the type of coach you want your kid to play for?

The other kid had his arm broken for cryin' out loud! It could have been worse...what if the kid slammed his head on the floor?

First the threat to John Calipari and now this.

Temple has been on the decline for the last few years, its not as if his presence will be missed.

To his credit, Chaney did say he felt the suspension handed down by the university president was appropriate.

Probably because he's in no position to argue.

Maybe, but people have complained about less.

But, if he felt it was the right thing to do, why didn't he do that himself or wait until the university took action instead of suspending himself?
It's a rhetorical question, I'm just thinking out loud...anyway, it's done and over with, I guess.

From what I've heard, the officiating let the game get out of hand. Still no excuse to send in a thug, but just another example of officials letting matters get out of hand. You ever seen Anchorman? In my opinion, every official has to be made from the same mold as that Brick character. Not a one of them come off having an IQ over 50. Refs either don't get enough control over a game or they take too much control of a game. The best things a ref can do is be forgotten once the clock hits all zeros.

UKTopher23 is an unknown quantity at this point
it was appropriate....

but Chaney never said break anyones arm, he said hard fouls, and dirty screens with elbows up. Exactly what he was complaining about St. Joes screens, and I saw what he was talking about. The refs let it get out of hand early, and called one moving screen, but they didnt stop. Chaney probably wouldnt have cared if St Joes wasnt draining everything they threw up off of those screens too. Its Chaneys fault....but I cant say I blame him, though he is one of the last of a dying breed of downright mean old men in the coaching ranks.

I agree, the refs could/should have done something about it. In my mind, Chaney had the ultimate responsibility. Think about the message he sent his kids....

Anyone else think Chaney has put a hit on at least one person in his life? I wouldn't be surprised.
