Bracketology

Holy cow, have you guys checked this week's Bracketology on ESPN.com? Usually it's right on, but the latest one rewarded KU's victory over OSU with a #2 seed in by far the most difficult bracket. A bracket that includes UK as the #1 seed (I don't mind, I'd love to play them again), last year's national champs, UCONN, as a #4 seed, and last year's runner-up, Georgia Tech, as a #9 seed! Plus, out of the 16 teams in the Albuquerque region, KU had played 5 of them already this season. North Carolina is basically the only team in it's region with a chance to make the final four. The Wake Forest bracket is a two-team bracket with Wake & Oklahoma State. Illinois is in the second hardest bracket with a few other teams that could make it to St. Louis.

You guys have a look for yourself and see what you think.

Of course, with BC losing big last night, the brackets are sure to be shaken up more next week.

Well, Honestly.....

the 3 straight losses are still hurting KU.....and the only think that will wash that away enough will be for KU to win out. The rest of it really wont matter as far as who is in your bracket......it used to be the first 2 rounds were gimmes...now only half of the first round games are gimmes, if that. If UK and KU win out and Wake and UNC meet in the tourneyfinal, it'll go like this

#1-#1...Illinois
#2-#1...Wake/UNC winner
#3-#1...KU(by virtue of head-head win vs UK)
#4-#1...UK

#1-#2...Wake UNC Loser
#2-#2...Big East Tourney Winner(thinkin Syr)
#3-#2...OSU if they play KU in the Big XII tourney final
#4-#2...Duke unless the get killed at UNC and lose early in tourney...then its up for grabs between BC/UConn/Washington/Zona/OK/UL

Something to think about.....
1) The ACC and Big 12 finals are played while they are filling out the brackets, rarely does winning the ACC tourney have any result on final seedings(see Maryland getting screwed last year, and Dook not getting hurt, OU not benefiting 2 years ago, etc....)

If everyone wins out the regular season then I think 3 of the number 1 seeds could still be playing when the brackets are finalized. Wake, Carolina and Kansas. Obviously if any of these games are seemingly over by half time it would help out the commision, but assuming KU and OSU are locked up in a tight game and UNC and Wake are locked up, then I think they will probably give the ACC 2 number 1's, and maybe pencil in KU as a 1 to be flipped with UK if they should loose. That being said I bet Lundardi is right if it comes down to this situation then KU and UK will be 1 2 in the same bracket.

The other thing is the good old subplot routing the comittee likes to play. If they feel that KU is stuck at 2 before the championships then I look for them to screw the seeding and put KU in UNC's bracket(easier to imagine), or Illiniois's bracket(making KU the 8th seed would require some explaining) for the story line...........

I also think that if Dook doesn't either win in Chapel Hill, or make the final of the ACC tourney(meaning beat either UNC or Wake) then they are not going to get a 2 barring a barrage of upset activity in front of them. I would look for the Pac-10 to have a 2, either Washington or Arizona depending on their tourney........

ok I now I am rambling now, but I think UCONN wins the Big East tourney, claims the 2 seed and knocks Syracuse down to a 3, opening up another 2 for one out of this group
(one of UNC,Wake,KU,UK)
Pac-10 winner if Wash or Zona
Dook with a big win
OSU if they make the final
Lousiville or BC

I never heard that before.....

Selection Sunday is March 13, but the finals for the ACC and SEC start at 1PM and Big XII at 3PM.............

I dont remeber ever hearing seeding results until after 6PM before, but Im not 100%...

The ACC doesnt derve to get 2 #1 seeds, only 3 teams are playing above .500 ball in conference play, unless KU and/or UK screw up Wake or UNC wont get a 1 seed. I guess its also a question if the committe will hold a grudge against KU for losing 3 straight after all the experts proclaimed the Villanova loss to be a "good learning" experience. I remember Lunardi always being pretty close to perfect as a bracketologist, in the end.

UConn is hot, but Syracuse is gonna right the ship I think, they are the best team in the BEast IMO

My money is on UConn based on them being able to beat 'Cuse at the Carrier dome already where they usually don't win.

After thinking this over, it really won't make much of a difference for KU whether they are a #1 or #2 seed. If they end up being a #1 seed, they will probably be the #1 seed in the toughest bracket. However, if they're a #2 seed, then they could be the #2 seed in an easier bracket.

Right now, I'm just excited about Senior Night. 50 years of the Phog...saying goodbye to 4 awesome seniors...I'm already getting emotional.

Crash, Even though the brackets dont come out until after the games, its not like they put all 64 teams in place once the games have been played. I remember distinctly the last couple of years listening to them say that you get to a point where you just have to put a team in so you can move on, even if the game is still in progress. I think your right about the ACC though, it will be done, it is the Big 10 and Big 12 that cause problems....

That being said I still think the ACC gets 2 1's. If Wake and Carolina haven't lost yet going into Sunday I think it is a done deal............
I think KU/UK gets screwed in this situation, although Crash I would say that if y'all won out then I would think it would be for the 3rd 1, not the fourth......

As for Senior Night I am headed to Chapel Hill this Sunday for Carolina's, I can't wait......Going to be pretty emotional with the class(Jawad Williams, Jackie Manuel, and Melvin Scott) that has gone through so much...........I would imagine Kansas's senior night with those guys should be incredible as well.......

If Washington wins out they deserve a #2 seed.

I'll be disappointed if they're put in a tougher bracket than they deserve. But, they'll need to beat tough teams to win it all anyway.

You still working on complete sentences?

If Kentucky is a #1 and GT is their #9, I would bet on both winning their first round games and then Tech taking UK out in the second round.
