I Hate Mondays: Running Back Saturation

In the NFL, how many teams are really in the market for a workhorse running back?

Go ahead, take a guess:

10? 5? 3?

How about zero?

Edgerrin James and Shaun Alexander, who are all allegedly on the trade block, are not garnering much interest. These two backs combined for over 3000...

1000 yd season does not look too awesome as everyone puts it in my book. What's 1000 yards divided up by 16 games? Thats 62.5 yards a game.

I think that the precident should be set at 1600 seeing that would be a 100 yard average per game.

Well 62.5 yards per game is a pretty good feat overall when you factor in that some defenses are much more stingy than others.

Personally I don't think end-of-the-year yardage is as important as yards-per-carry. You like at guys like Eddie George a couple of years back and he would break the 1000-yard barrier simply by carrying the ball enough.

A running back who averages 5 yards a carry seems much more valuable.

P.S. Keep an eye out on Tatum Bell next season.

A runnign back who does average that is much valuable, but Im thinking statistically. Whenever I hear that, I just think of it as nonsense.

I am keeping an eye out for Tatum, possibly two.
