I usually try to start off an article with a hook, something to engage my reader and get him (or preferably her) to stick around and check out what I have to say. For the most part, I think my hooks are pretty clever and relevant to my topics. But I have found that the media industry is becoming...

You're in good company bro. I dont watch or go to their website either. The only thing I watch is PTI and that's only because I have been following Kornheiser and Wilbon's careers since I was young because of their link to Shirley Povich, one of, if not the greatest sports writer ever.

Phin,
Welcome to Sportsrant. As a fellow writer, I enjoyed your blend of humor, sarcasm and wit. I liked your clever opening as well. However, I respectfully disagree with your theme...I posted a response in the latest news article. Even though I disagree with your theme, trust me, that was an excellent post. I enjoyed reading it, and hopefully more good banter will continue. |

As far as opinions go, feel free to disagree, starts good debate. I do think there are merits to the article and that ESPN has really lost the focus of its mission when the company was founded

Well we already saw what ESPN did with message boards once, so lets hope they don't buy you out.
Also, about the ESPN problem/issues, it is all we really have in most of the country. (In PA for sure) It is 110% better than any other sports channels that I get on tv. Would I like something better? Of course, who wouldn't want improvement on anything? I do not use ESPN's web page for much, because I do prefer MANY webpages over it. But I do think you are blowing things alittle out of proportion when it comes to the tv stations. These shows that you speak of take up very little of their daily schedule. For example... (today's schedule for ESPN and ESPN2) http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tvl...0506&network=1 http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tvl...0506&network=2 From 7am to 12am (17 hours when most people would watch) there are 2 "shows" that aren't really about current sports (Stump the schwab) on during that time. I mean really, is two shows on two channels really all that bad? While i agree with everyone else that the article is very good... IMO, you are making assumptions on what ESPN is going to turn into rather than what it is now. |
