Sports Gospel- Embracing the cliche

Sports Gospel- Embracing the cliché

Mark Chalifoux

Around Memorial Day it seems as if every sports column is the same. They all either lament the insignificance of sports in the “grand scheme” (which just isn’t true, but that is another column) of things, praise someone or some...

Okay, see, the problem with this article is Mark Chalifoux is just not giving a hundred and ten percent out there. There's no excuses for apathetic play. This writer has to buck down and get with the program. Remember last year when he wrote that article that SHOCKED THE WORLD? He has to somehow get back into the groove. He has to step up now, and separate the men from the boys. He has to get back to fundamentals. He's got to rediscover his form. He's got to lead by example. A year ago, he knew what it took to win.

Now, don't get me wrong. Mark has great work ethic. You can practically feel the electricity when he takes his writing to the web. He's got all the intangibles, and he's got great character. Nothing but upside. You can't say enough about him. HOWEVER: Statistics can be misleading. He's just not playing together as a team this season. None of his articles are on the same page. Most nights he's just not on his game. What he must absolutely do is generate some offense, and just take it one article at a time. He can't worry if his back is against the wall. He's gotta ignore all the pressure and come together as a TEAM!!! If he plays his game the way we all know he can, then he can make a statement (or send a message, whichever allows him to play within himself) around the league that he can overcome adversity! He's gotta WANT it more.

I've seen other writers take it to the next level, where everybody's on the same page and all lines are firing. Everyone's feeling it. Found their groove. In the zone. They just know how to win. And even God is on their side. It demonstrates great athleticism.

But Mark is just not on his game this week. He's gotta rebuild, and maybe secure some actual content for the playoffs.

Now, don't get too excited about this. It's just one article and he has to take it one week at a time. The next one is a must-win article. No one gives this writer the respect he deserves, but mark my words: he is for real.

Clearly, it's a matter of Mark executing and making some adjustments. If he plays his game, he can beat anybody. Unless, of course, it just wasn't his day...in which case, he'll need to make some adjustments and execute.
