Get over it, you ignorant Bearcat fans
Get over it you ignorant Bearcat fans
Mark Chalifoux I didn’t want to be blunt, but sometimes you have to be to get through to a University of Cincinnati Bearcat fan. I guess this is the counterpoint to Sara’s point (and to be honest, who doesn’t love impromptu PCP?), but the fact of the... Full Article |

plenty of coaches have made mistakes in the past and have come back as better coaches and people....while he might not be winning national titles, he does produce a winning program and nba players...graduation rates might be low but only a few top notch schools, like duke, have high graduation rates....i agree w/sara on this, cinncinati basketball is what it is because of huggins....and this coming from a rutgers fan...a team that never does anything

It is what it is because of Huggins is EXACTLY why he needs to go. THe program is a joke in the national media, and its time that the polie sirens stop following the team around. He has done noting to improve the image of the school and the intergrity of the program. Coaches today are fired for far, far less and when you look at it, Huggins isn't near the coach he used to be.

he built that program up to what it is today...a ncaa tournament team every year....no coach or team is perfect...even lou holtz has his rep tarnished by some violations...

That is just a horrible comparison. Holtz had some violations at Carolina, but he NEVER did anything personally to disgrace the university. You won't find a tape of Holtz driving drunk, vomiting on his car door, and stumbling around on national TV. Things got away from him at the very end of his career, but for Huggins, the crap with his players was CONSTANT.
To all the UC fans out there, why are you so afraid of trying to gain more respect and why are you so afraid that you might turn into a classy program? |

Who exactly in the media thinks the program is a joke? You? There are plenty of people who respect that the Bearcats always come prepared to compete. It's a shock if they don't win the C-USA title year in and year out! The point I'm trying to make here, is that UC fans like myself are not angry that Huggins is gone. He has had many opportunities to prove himself. I do believe another coach can take the team where it needs to go. The point is, UC fans ARE angry in the way the situation was handled. People say that Huggins should have just left two months ago, but he isn't the type to abandon his players after he worked so hard to get them not to abandon him! That would be hypocritical in his mind. Zimpher gave Huggins two options--fire or resign. Clearly, Huggins was still upset about his two-year deal, but Zimpher could have offered a third option of--sit down, be quiet, and finish up the two years. UC fans are angry with how Huggins has to go.

from the second article:
The biggest complaint people had about Huggins' program was that he "never graduated his players." That perception doesn't match up to reality. While you can twist the figures any way you like, Huggins indeed has graduated a good number of his players, including 11 of his last 17. Some have gone on to play professional basketball and others have graduated in more than five years -- so they don't count on the NCAA rolls. |

EVERYONE in the national media thinks the program is a joke. The only people who "respect" the program are writers stationed in cincy or from cincy (see Mike Decourcy). The grad rates, the DUI, and the rap sheets of players have long made the UC program into nothing more than a punchline to the national media. They have a thug image and it will take some time to get over that, but frankly, youve had your head in the sand if you think people respect the program (btw, if they are always prepared to compete, why have they lost something like 6 out of the last 8 to Xavier? and why havent they ever upset anyone in the ncaa tourney??)
And I expect UC fans to be upset with the way it was handled, because they arent really UC fans or grads, they are Huggins fans. For now, sure, they will show up at Willies to turn in their UC gear and boycott the trustees, but lets not forget the great thing about UC fans, they will jump right back on that bangwagon once a new coach comes in and makes the cats even better. Again, this decision is much bigger than one season and you can't let Huggins sit around for another two years, because that just puts you even further behind the 8-ball. And frankly, as someone who lost a family member to a drunk driver, you wont find me too sympathetic to how he should get to go out. That being said, rationally, he deserved better, but Huggins isnt the type who would accept a one year swan song, he had to go down fighting. He gave alot to the program and school, but its more than past time to move on. Sure the venom from the bearcat fans are there now, but they remind me a lot of the french people. A few years back, a few french citizens wanted to make a demonstration of their frustration with America and attacked and wrecked a nearby McDonald's. The next morning, the same people came back and wondered why it was closed for breakfast. |

Would you expect Dick Vitale to write anything negative about anyone? Do you know who Dick Vitale is? And Bilas disagrees, but his is also more of a knee jerk reaction...this wont be a popular decision for many, for those who are blinded by uc they will miss their huggy, for everyone else its a matter of timing, but both of those groups need to look long term.

Come on now, if Nick Lachey Is so adamant against this, how can anyone be for it?? He even wrote an article stressing his displeasure on this for the Cincinnati Enquirer.
