VD's Previews: San Diego Chargers

Sponsored by Cybersportsbook.com

Last Year:

After an offseason of trying to find a reliable quarterback, one surfaced in-house. Drew Brees may have been slow to mature, but when he finally did in his fourth season the San Diego Chargers got that bolt of energy they were looking for. Only 3-3...

Excellent article! As a Charger fan, I totally agree that it will be very difficult, if not downright impossible, to duplicate last years success. SD won't sneak up on anyone as a team, and neither will Brees and Gates, individually. Teams will have had a full year of game tape to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of both those players.

You mentioned the OL and Hudosn Houck. Carl Mauck has a decent reputation, but he's not Houck. The OL is the key to the season this year, IMO. Give LT room and give Brees time (isn't that true of every team?) and SD can win 10 games. If the OL falters, so do their playoff hopes.

Jammer, IMO, has been a disappointment. Like you said, he is not good in coverage giving up way too many big plays.

A healthy DE Dave Ball and the emergence of Merriman will improve not only the pass rush but the pass defense.

Thank you.

I loved Jammer coming out of college because he appeared to have great cover skills. He is extremely physical, which is good, but it seems like that we were a little deceived because in college he could push around every receiver and throw them off their route.

In the NFL he still gets good jams but his speed is only average.

I'm just floored, to be honest, that between Davis, Fletcher, Jammer and Florence, all really high picks, that the Chargers do not have a dominant secondary.

P.S. Bhawod Jue sucks.
