alex rodriguez - JackAss of the week October 5th, 2005 - October 12th, 2005
![]() After signing a $ 250 million contract with the Texas Rangers a few years ago, making him the highest paid player in baseball, things went sour between the Rangers and Arod, He never really got along with Buck Showalter, manager of the Rangers, and in the end he finally left for the Yankees, where this jackass belongs Well the Yanks could not win their final game against the RedSox which caused them to have an identical record with the Angles at 95-67. The only problem was that LAA won the season series against the Yanks causing them to travel to California for the opening of the playoffs Arod got pissed because Showalter pulled 3 Texas stars early in the game and the Angels won the game 7-4. Why would this jackass get on Showalter for doing his job, it is up to him what he does with his team, not Arod Hey Arod, shut the hell up, you jackass |

b.s. you dumb yankee hating jizzstain....morally speaking, texas should be doing all they can to win the game....the devil rays put up a helluva fight in the final games and didn't just pack it in like mr. showalter....arod was absolutely correct that showalter was wrong pulling starters early when his scrubby ass team had no shot at the playoffs, they can rest the whole offseason...this is ethically speaking of baseball morality

Say NO to Shootouts!

The thing is, you are blind if you don't see that Buck did this to try to screw the Yankees. He waiting until he knew the Sox where going to win and THEN pulled his whole team out of the game. It was an opportunity that jumped out to him to stick it to the Yanks.
I don't agree with Sig that you have a moral obligation to try to win every game. You have a moral obligation to your team to make them better. If you are 20 games out with a month to go, you have every right to play a full team of rookies to see who will be good for the team next year. However, you gain nothing by putting these scrubs in with 5 innings to go in the last game of the year. |

it was the last game of the season...and all i hear from "analysts" is they shouldn't pack it in to be fair to the teams still fighting for a playoff spot..but now that its the yankees, its ok??? double standard...i'm glad we got rid of showalter

Lemme see if I understand this situation.
Bucky boy pulls off some of his stars against the Angels who are embroiled for playoff positioning with the Yankees. Bucky Boy used to manage the Yankees. Bucky's Boyz lose to the Angels, thereby giving the Angels home field against the Yankees and A-Rod is pissed. People are now pissed at A-Rod because he had the nads to speak out against the nefarious Bucky Boy? I say A-Rod got it spot on. Plus ssigman nailed it with the "integrity" of the game observation. If anything all these so-called pundits should be ramming hard to Bucky Boy for such a bush league move.

Arod is a good choice for jackass of the week every week of the year. In fact any member of the HATED Yankees deserves the nod.

Thing is, ARod basically put the blame on ONE MAN from another team for the Yankees not getting home field advantage.
In theory, sig is right. You should try to win EVERY game. Buck, by the spirit of the game, should have done all he could to win that game, even if it was the last game of the season. I was at the game Friday night when, down by 7 runs in the 7th inning, Showalter used three pitchers to address situations. This was the seventh inning of a meaningless ballgame (as far as the Rangers were concerned) with two outs and very little hope of coming back to win. So, he did try to win that game. Back to my point...if, in theory and spirit...the goal is to win EVERY game, what kind of message did the Yankees send in LOSING the final game of the season? All they had to do was win...regardless of what ANYONE else did that day. They lost...and they blame another team. Interesting...

If A-Rod gets the award for this week then the Angel fans have to get it next week for cheering when he got hit by the pitch in the 2nd inning.
That was a totally classless move & I was shocked that they would cheer so resoundingly. |
