Bluebook Notes--Leinart Second Best In L.A.

Olson is quietly having the most... Full Article |

I must say the Jets usually do manage to make draft day quite entertaining.

Olson might end up being at best an NFL backup...that's about it.

Yeah, Olson won't be a starter in the NFL. He doesn't have the arm strength. But, he could be a Jason Garrett type backup.
How does Brady Quinn consistently get Heisman consideration? First off, he has two losses. Second, his numbers do not even come close to the shadow that Drew Olson is creating. A 10-1 TD/INT ratio....after 10 games! Think about that for a second and leave the name and team out of it. 30 TDs and 3 INTs. For the 11th ranked team in the country. With one loss. He also has 2,900 yards. He leads the nation (and this does include Notre Dame) in passing efficiency. His last game he threw as many incompletions as he did TD passes (5). Through 10 games, Olson has put together numbers that compare favorably to the statistics of the last nine quarterbacks to win the Heisman Trophy. His efficiency rating is higher than the quarterback winners since 1990, as is his touchdown-interception ratio, while his completion percentage is higher than all but one of the winners. UCLA's Drew Olson compared to recent Heisman Trophy Winners Name/Yr Games Att. Comp. Int. Pct. Yards Tds Yds/g Effic. You know, I was watching the Charger/Buffalo game yesterday and seeing Drew Brees just pick apart the Buffalo defense. Now, I'm not saying the Bills have a great secondary, but Brees doesn't have the "big" arm of a George, Vick, Bledsoe, Palmer, etc. Brees also doesn't have the burner WR to stretch a defense. He doesn't have a true #1 WR like Moss or TO or someone like that. He has a great TE and Brees just makes plays. It got me to thinking about Drew Olson. He's in the same situation at UCLA. He doesn't have a big arm. Young WRs without a true #1. He has a great TE and a great RB that can catch out of the backfield. Brees plays in a system built for his talents that rely on precise WR route running and QB accuracy along with an excellent TE and RB. Olson could do the same in the NFL. It took Brees three years, it could take Olson three year. Interesting... |
