The Michael Jordan best of all time thread!
So we all know that he is a legend, the best to ever play the game.
What is the best game that he had? What is his best highlight? Should he have stayed retired? Thoughts? |

Best game...not sure
Best highlight...his shot to beat the Jazz for the championship (not sure what year, I think it was his final season with the Bulls) Should he have stayed retired? YES. His two biggest mistakes (well actually 3) were: 1. Making a comeback with the Wizards. 2. When he came back with the Bulls after retiring the first time, taking the number 45 instead of 23. and 3. TRYING TO PLAY BASEBALL. |

Best game: against the Celtics (sometime in the 1980's) he scored 63 i think
was that the best moment, i mean it makes all the highlight films but i want to see what else the others say But the baseball item is the worst moment in his LIFE |

Was just my opinion. I'm sure others have some great Jordan moments too.
As for the baseball thing, that was an embarrassment to Michael Jordan's career in sports. |

Best game? I think it was the finals in 1995? Could have been 96, I really don't remember, and don't remember who they were playing (sorry). Before the game, it was announced that he had the flu, and probably wouldn't play, everyone assumed Chicago was done. But he did play, with a 102 degree fever, scored 40 some odd points, and got the champisonship title.
Best play? All of them. I agree about the baseball thing, and the dawn of "Error Jordan". |

The 63 pt game was in the 87 playoffs, and the flu game was in 97 finals against the Jazz. There are too many great games to pick from. Obviously the baseball move was a mistake, but I dont think coming back with the wiz was. It was nice to see him play again. He is done though. We saw it at the end of his last season. He should fade quietly into history.

Most overated player of all time! MJ
MJ was and is the most overated player of all time. If you watch he walk on almost every play. I would have love to see if refs had made him put the ball on the court before putting the ball up.
I know all you casual b-ball fans will say how can you say that. No one will ever be able to dispute the fact that Jordan walk 9 out of 10 trip to the basket. The league protected it's star, but what bunch of crap. Either way MJ was great, but way overated. danman

Damn Dan that is an extremely harsh statement to make but something you are entitled too. I would have to bash you though, if you ask any player during his era they would probably tell you that he was the best that ever played the game, no matter what he did as far as walking

It's true that MJ was indeed a great ,one of the greastest to have played the game, but it just amazes me that everyone wants to proclaim him as the greatest player ever and he wasn't,but I assume that is the case because most people aren't actually students of the game and only make their assessments based on the players that they've actually seen play.
Having played and loved the game since I was a kid and have gone back and watched old game films of players that I didn't get to see play during their prime and some I did have the pleasure of seeing. Thus,I can give you three players that were greater than MJ,One was the Big O- Oscar Robertson who averaged a triple double on a nightly basis,Elgin Baylor who was a 6'5" forward, but lead the NBA in with double doubles on a regular basis and also lead the NBA in both scoring and rebounding several years consecutively as well as maintaining a league leading average of 40 pts. per game and is regarded by many historians of the game as the greatest forward to have ever played the game.Kareem who is the greatest scorer in NBA history and had as many league MVP's as MJ and as many NBA championships,is by far the closest of anyone, including MJ,to being the actual greatest player to have ever played the game. I also have seen film of Connie Hawkins who was 6'8" forward who did things with basketball that MJ could only dream about doing, but because of a college gambling scandal,he wasn't allowed to play in the NBA until he was about 30,but he still had the handles and all around game to be one of the better players. Those are just a few of the players that were greater than MJ,but because of stats and coverage of games not being what they were during MJ's playing days, they never got the reconition that MJ got. As for someone calling MJ the human highlight film,is also a reach because the real and actual highlight film title belongs to Dominque Wilkins of the Atlanta Hawks who put on a highlight film display on a nightly basis. At anyrate, before proclaiming any one individual player as the greatest ever, you should a knowldge base of what other players of past eras accomplished during their careers. You could say that MJ was the greatest player of his era and even that is debatable, but to say that he was the greatest player ever,is indeed inaccurrate.

Damn RA. That is probably the best post I have seen you make. Very well thought out, and you make many good points.
I can't argue anything you said, as I know very little about the game, as you can tell from my prior posts. Nice work, keep it up. |

WOW! That was a very good post RA. And I must admit, I call Jordan the best player ever because I am not a student of the game and have never really seen the other guys you mention play.
