USA women's hockey coach Ben Smith tops the Jackass list this week. This particular breed of retard, who could not get a real hockey coaching job (you know, coaching a MENS TEAM) cut the only widely known name in women's hockey from the roster, and guaranteed an upset. The upset came from Sweden.

For the first time in the brief history of women's international hockey, the USA women lost to a team other than Canada, and had to settle for bronze.

Coach Ben Smith made some debatable choices in the Americans' preparation for Turin, cutting longtime captain Cammi Granato and then opting for a short pre-Olympic training camp and tour. His roster's overall inexperience must now be questioned as the Americans settle for their worst Olympic finish in the bronze-medal game Monday.

"We had plenty of leadership on this team," said Smith, a longtime advocate for better development programs in every nation. "This is where the game is going. It's not just about us and Canada."

If by "plenty of leadership" he meant "lack of goal scoring ability", then I agree.

Ben Smith, who led the United States women's hockey team into three Olympics, almost certainly has coached his final game for the national team.

"I don't know what my role will be with USA Hockey in the future,"

"But I've said before ... I think we need more women in our leadership positions with this program."

Asked after the game if Granato's presence in the Olympics might have made a difference, Smith replied, "I don't think so."
