Game of Shadows - Illegally obtained information has screwed Bonds

First note, I am not here to defend Barry Bonds one bit, I think that what he has done to baseball is a travesty and he should face the facts. The contents of the new book called "Game of Shadows" written by co-authors Mark Fainaru-Wada and Lance Williams, allege that Bonds did the following:

Freedom of speech would allow the Chronicle writers to publish whatever they want...same as with Michael Moore.

Even if the information the writers received was solely from the "leak", why should the writers be held accountable? The "leak" should be the only one accountable.

If the 200 or so people interviewed all had similar testimonies, I would think that is pretty compelling.

A Dallas Morning News writer said today that Bonds should still be a Hall of Famer due to his numbers before 1998, but his stats afterwards should have an asterisk.

If the information that they received was illegally obtained, even if it was not done on their part, it should have never been allowed to be published. You cannot sit here and tell me that they did not know that it was not supposed to be published

The precendent was set in the '60s with the Pentagon Papers... illegally obtained documents can be published if the information contained is believed to be true. Personally, I don't care how they got the information, if it's true that Bonds turned himself into a freakish science project, then it's a crime against baseball and all of its fans. I think every person who watches baseball, or at least follows the game, should feel insulted that he flat-out cheated so he could have better stats. Is it any coincidence that a player who was known for being a bit brusque and testy prior to '98 turned into a full-fledged asshole after, complete with random outbursts and erratic behavior? All of the evidence points to steroid abuse, and I for one would feel insulted if he made it to the Hall of Fame. If Pete Rose is kept out because of gambling, then Barry Bonds should be kept out for cheating.

The fact of the matter is that the judge put a gag order on all evidence and that also the fact that grand jury testimony is sealed, makes the leak illegal, making "if it is true" go right out the window. If the reporter received their evidence from an illegal source then they should not be allowed to do what they please with it, PERIOD!

It would be the same if a judge ordered the same kind of gag order in murder trial and if that would leak, it could provide the means for someone to get killed or something to that affect. That is my point!!

And Kyle, Bonds has always been an arrogant ass, even before 1998. Now I am not saying that he is innocent what so ever, I am just saying that none of this would have come to the front of the news if the leaked testimony was ever made public
