Duke Lacrosse Team - JackAss Of The Week March 27th, 2006 - April 3rd, 2006
![]() For some reason, college lacrosse teams seem to be getting into a lot of trouble this spring. Maybe it's that "we don't get any respect" attitude that rugby players used to have? Who knows, but we do know that all 46 members of the Duke men's lacrosse team had to provide DNA samples and submit to being photographed after a woman alleged she was sexually assaulted by three members. This isn't your typical dorm-room drunken party gone bad: according to reports, more than 30 members of the team showed up at house rented by three team captains for a party on March 13. According to cops, two women went to the house to dance and the men became aggressive and the woman left, but were asked to return. When they went back to the house, the two women were separated and the victim--reportedly a mother of two just trying to make an honest buck--was forced into a bathroom and assaulted by three men. Sometime around 1:30 a.m. on March 14 the victim called police from a nearby grocery store to report the assault. Since then, the university has forfeited two games while police continue their investigation and University President Richard H. Brodhead released a statement saying, "Physical coercion and sexual assault are unacceptable in any setting and have no place at Duke. The criminal allegations against three members of our men’s lacrosse team, if verified, will warrant very serious penalties." Because no one on the team is willing to come forward to identify the alleged perpetrators, cops have had to take pictures and get DNA evidence from everyone on the squad. Upset with the way the school is handling the incident and teams code of silence, about 75 people attended a candlelight vigil outside the house on Friday night. One protestor said he was "outraged that 40 Duke students know what happened and won't come forward" and angry that it took Duke two days to decide to cancel Saturday's game. Apparently, the game wasn't going to be cancelled until traffic on Duke sports message boards heated up and there were calls for protests at the game. Even if the assault allegations prove to be false, it might not be the end of this incident: according to reports there was also some underage drinking going on at the party This was provided to Sportsrant by Bad Jocks at http://www.badjocks.com Last edited by Mike; April 1st, 2006 at 12:42 PM. |

Say NO to Shootouts!

I may come accross as an insensitive prick here, but I don't care. I think its stupid that the team was forced to forfeit games because of this. What if this isn't true? What if the whole thing is made up? What if none of the "40 people who know" didn't comme forward because in fact no one has a clue where this came from?
I know, this isn't college basketball or football, so who cares about the teams win/loss record. But to these kids, it is just as important as basketball or football. If this happened to Duke's basketball team, do you think they would be forfeiting games? Shit no. I'm sick of this guilty until proven innocent bullshit. And if 3 players did do this, then 37 of them are being punished for something they didn't do. |

Dancing, I have to assume wearing very little, for 30 drunk kids in a house is making an honest buck? And then leaving when the situation got out of hand and deciding to go back?
Yes,the Dukies are the JAOW,but these women aren't the sharpest tools in the shed either.

You bring up a great point.. if you left because it was hostile or you were worried about a potential problem... why the hell would you even THINK about going back there? |
