New players coming into the NFL today should not have a choice or influence the decision of where they end up at all, they are the few that get the chance to play at that level and should think of it like that

The guys not a slave. He can choose to work or not work. The Chargers can't put a gun to his head and make him play QB for them. He told them upfront that he wouldn't play for them and he would exercise his right as an American not to work for them if they chose him.

I hate all Mannings but this guy had leverage (being independently wealthy) and took advantage of it. That's the American way.

dont agree with you at all! He should play for who drafts him without bitching. It has been a rule in the NFL as far back as I can remember. You get drafted and you play for the team that drafts you without bitching

i agree with mike...that douchebag entered the draft..meaning his rights can be taken by any team....and if he chooses not to play for them..then guess what..tuff shit on him..they should own his rights forever...and he shouldn't be able to play for anyone until they trade his rights away...let him sit out his whole career..i hope he flops and kerry collins leads him new team to a super bowl win

I also completely disagree. Since when are players allowed to draft their team? That's not how it works. Anyway, I think the Giants are even worse than the Chargers, so he will likely crash and burn behind NY's swiss cheese O-line.

Elway and Francis both did it and both proved to do ok but there is something about this prick I just don't like. I agree with those that say you should play for who you get drafted by. It is unfair to the person who obtained the first pick. Friggin babies get all this money and sets of options before they play their first game....rediculous. I hope he gets flattened like his brothers friggn nose.

eli manning is a big spoiled baby. he needs to suck it up, big time. manning has absolutely NO RIGHT whatsoever to determine who he is drafted by, imho.

the whole situation makes me pretty sick.

'professional' athletes are spoiled ridiculously. they should suck it up and play their first contract where ever they are signed. it's not like he wouldn't make the same amount of money in san diego. if they don't like the draft rules then they should complain to their players association, they are the ones who agreed to contravene labour laws. let's face it, the concept of a draft is a violation of basic human freedoms concerning a person's ability to choose who their employer is. but we can't fault the teams (the chargers) when the system is set up that way, under a collective bargaining agreement that was approved by the players (through their association). if the mannings had a problem with the system, they should be angry at the nflpa, and not take it out on the chargers.

at the same time, by contravening the entire draft process, manning is basically saying that he's better than all of the other players involved in the draft--"they have to abide by the rules, BUT NOT ME". why should there be special treatment for manning only, and not every one of the top draft picks? (or all potential draftees, for that matter?) sorry, but if the rules are to be broken, they should be broken for ALL, not just one A$$hole.

Let me explain this in a way you'll understand, ny. When you're born, you don't get to pick your parents. If so, you probably wouldn't have picked a pimp and a crack whore so you wouldn't have had to live on welfare the rest of your life. Everyone would choose the lawyer and doctor parents if that were the case. So it goes in the NFL, some players have to play for the Cards & Chargers whether they like it or not.
