Bad Olympicks

You know how the Olympics started, it used to be a big Greek festival sports thingmabobber with nails in the boxing gloves and the whatnot. As sports became more civilized, and as the world became more civilized, the Olympics became a international sporting event. Which is why I bring this up.

I don't like the idea of the Olympics in Greece right now. Three bombs went off outside police headquarters in Athens this morning, but it's being said these bombings are not related to the Olympics.

Frankly, it doesn't matter if they're related or not. The fact remains that Greece is not ready to host the games. Not only are the venues barely half-completed, but Athens is an ancient city. I mean ancient. They don't have a modern sewer system, public utilities are barely adequate considering it's the 21st century, and security surrounding the games is shitty at best. The chance of a terrorist attack at this games is very frightening, and honestly looks more likely than not right now.

I'm a person of superstition, and these Olympics are looking worse every day. The opening ceremonies are scheduled for August 13. FRIDAY, August 13. Come on, that's just asking for trouble!

It's not that I don't trust the Greek government to protect the world's atheletes, it's just... Well, I can't think of a way to finish that outright lie.

Why bother bombing the Olympics, though? What good will it do?

I guess that can be said about all violent things.

However I feel that the Games are now a product countries have to earn with a good record, rather than something everyone can enjoy. Remember the big controversy with the Canadian skaters in that last winter games? Damn sports, too much steroids and crap that doesn't matter, and not enough cock'n'balls.

Olympics crap I own:
-1994 Lillehammer video game for Sega Genesis
-1976 Barcelona wooden box (not any wooden box, it's hard, throw it at a tank, it'll take 100 tanks before it warps)

Attacking during the Olympics seems too obvious. I work in the field of security and that would be a remote option. It would be a time and date when nobody's expecting anything, like Sept 11. It's possible an attack could hit the Olympics, but not the best time. The element of suprise is a big factor in attacks.

Do you think the IOC give's a rat's ass about human rights issues when it comes to selecting a host site? The only thing that guys like former IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch care about are how much money they're going to be able to skim into their own personal Swiss bank account from the host committee, and how many hookers the host committee are going to be provided to the IOC governing body while attending the host City.

You might as well start eliminating around 75% of all nations from the host list if human rights issues are going to be part of the criteria for being awarded the games.

I hope you realize that this will probably be the worst Olympic Games ever held in the games' history. The TV ratings are sure to be abysmal, too.
