2004 NFL Weekly Picks!

Hey fellas, Mike & I are currently trying to set up the NFL Weekly Picks for this season and we'd love to get some feedback from you all on how you'd like it set up. Personally, here's how I'd like it done:

List the games earliest to latest, top to bottom, and have a box or circle to select next to each team.

As for points for each pick you get right, I say just keep it simple and give 1 point for each correct choice. However, it might be neat to have a "Pick of the Week". You would designate one matchup to be your "Pick of the Week" and if you get it correct, you get bonus points. But, from then on, you can't select the same team you picked to win for that "Pick of the Week" in any future "Picks of the Week". Or maybe Mike & I could just designate one matchup each week as the "Pick of the Week". I think that would be easiest to save all of us the confusion of sorting out everyone's "Pick of the Week". Anyway, that's just some food for thought.

For the tie-breaker, there are many different things we could do. We could guess the score of each team in the Monday Night game, the combined score in the Monday Night game, the spread of the Monday Night game, or the over/under of the Monday Night game.

Finally, I liked that last year we could compare our picks to other people's once the games started, but I didn't like how much room the team logo's took up on the screen. To me, it made it hard to compare picks. So, if we were to have that again, I think the logos should take up less space, so, if nothing else, all we have to do is scroll up & down, but not side to side.

Anyway, those are all of my ideas so far. I welcome you to add your own.

Crash, we should keep it as it was last year, but maybe integrate it in this time.

It is pretty cool I think, some people hate it. Makes for more thinking in your picks for sure.

Say there are 16 games played in a week, you would pick your winners in each game. Since there are 16 games you would then rank each of your picks with 1 being the least confident and 16 being the most confident. For example if I were sure Philly would beat Tampa Bay that week, I would assign that game a 16. If I picked the game right, I get 16 points for that game but if I picked wrong I lose my 16-point pick that week. On the other hand, if there is a game that you are just not sure or 'confident' about in your pick then you would give it a confidence level of 1, meaning if you lose, you only lose 1 and if you win you only win 1 so no big deal either way. You use each number 1-16 only once, which makes things pretty interesting. So for the 16 game per week example each person has a possible 136 points. On a bye week, say 14 games are played then you would rank 1-14 with 105 points possible.

I am probably making it more confusing than it is, I like it personally though because it rewards the person making smart picks instead of blind luck being the sole reason for winning.

Okay, I remember ESPN had that for the last NCAA Bowl games. I wouldn't mind that, but I'll have to see what Mike thinks of it.

Not a bad idea.

I really like doing it like last year, but the "confidence style" is also a interesting idea too. I'll just go with whatever we do, it doesn't really matter to me.

Well, the more opinions on which way to go, the better.
