Ill avoid nitpicking your grammar.
In my ways, it goes basketball, football then baseball. Solely because basketball there is constant commotion, football has the plays but the time between at times can be a killer, and like football, baseball has some serious downtime but its like a drama that once you get hooked, you can't let go. |

So you don't include hockey because the TV ratings are at an all time low yet you say the same for basketball and still include it? That is just not fair IMO. Hockey came off a lockout that saw the demise of an entire season yet still managed to draw loads of fans back. Why did the fans come back, well it was not based on some over-juiced home run race that some other sport used. It was based on the fans knowing that the players were giving their all and the excitement generated brought them back.
TV ratings, fiddlesticks, I never get asked by any TV polling person what I watch. Thank goodness there are options out there besides ESPN, I do not need them telling me what it is I should be watching. As far as excitement goes since I am limited to your choices, there cannot be a bigger more exciting game then football. I say as an objective observer. I cannot deny the amount of people who watch and follow the game and the massive amount of coverage the game receives. I don't know enough about basketball to comment and baseball well, a few good pieces of drama in an otherwise dull and laborously long season does not fuel the old excit-o-meter in my book. |

1.Hockey
Almost non-stop excitment.Physical, fast, long stretches without a stopage. 2.Nascar-Fast,exciting,just check the TV ratings. 3.Football-Exciting moments, but too many and too long stopages of play. 4. Baseball-History,atmosphere of Fenway and Yankee stadiums....One thing baseball is not and that is exciting. 5. Basketball-NBA.Ugh unwatchable.College basketball, another story, but I'm going on just pro sports here. |

Oh GMAFB Rust - I am sure Hockey is up there with its limited number of fan coverage but it cannot be number one, look at the number of fans compared to the other sports! Sure it is exciting, but not that much! Baseball is exciting, I don't think that you can get more drama than any other sport/ Maybe it is the anticipation of the "next pitch" or the inning, the score. True fans know the truth |

Each pitch can be exciting, you never know what is going to happen next. Football has its predictable situations! |

Most exciting sports... heres my list.
First off- Ratings don't matter at all, if 2 billion people watch paint dry wouldit make it exciting??? NO. Second- Unfortunately, Football was punished because it is the entire sport and not just a specific moment, For example Football is more exciting then baseball BUT not more exciting then the last chance a team has to win a game. I did this because 4 and goal is exciting, but its not noticably more exciting then any other point in a football game. Third- This is my list, if you dont like it, fuck you. Finally- Sex wins. SEX- if you don't think this is first then you are wrong. HOCKEY- If you don't believe me, watch a breakaway and tell me you aren't on the edge of your seat. I really mean that, I watched the Sabres-Flyers games and even though the Flyers were getting killed, it was intense to watch the back and forth. Or better yet, if you have the chance watch the Ducks-Oilers tonite, it will be awesome. And its even better when both goalies are at the top of their games. Last Half of a Horse Race- Yes you read that correctly. Gimme the final 1/2 of a horse race and I'm there watching it. Usually it's fun, sometimes though, it turns into a blowout which is neat to watch but I wouldn't want to see it too often. (Comes right under SEX if you have money on the winning horse, just saying. ) Last At-Bat for the losing/tied Baseball team- Whether its the Top of the 9th down by 2 or bottom of the ninth down by 4, you put your rally cap on and start doing the 'Angels in the Outfield' arm flap or whatever, and don't even lie ssigs you've totally done it. Football- I think this is anticipation and excitement done better then in baseball, in 40 seconds the ball is placed at the line of scrimmage, the play is called, the O and D line up, the QB makes his reads, the man goes in motion, the ball is snapped, the QB fakes the handoff, the SAFETY BIT, the QB airs it out, the WR is right there with a smile on his face, TOUCHDOWN... no matter what point of the game that occurs its fun and exciting to watch. NASCAR, the final 3 laps, IF its close- I'd still rather see a TD take place but hey, nothin like watchin 2 cars neck and neck for bragging rights. Basketball, the final 2 minutes- This would be ranked higher since it is the most important time of the game, but it usually has 5 fouls and 4 timeouts within the time period and somehow takes about 15 minutes to finish, so it definitely hurts it a bit but still exciting and fun. If I have to do just sports then SEX always first no matter what Boxing: depending on the fight can rank anywhere from 2nd to last HOCKEY: nothing beats playoff hockey FOOTBALL: overall my favorite sport Horse Racing: if you win your bet its the new 2nd Badminton: Olympic event, any Asian nation involved makes it amazing, and the added bonus of saying SHUTTLECOCK all the time. Basketball: who doesnt love an alley oop Curling: exciting if 1 you are drunk 2 friends are watching it with you and 3 you are having sex... if none are happening, its lower then paint dry... Baseball: periods of boredom interrupted by spots of greatness Nascar: I just can't really watch a whole race |

There is no such thing as the "most exciting sport". Everyone has a different opinion on what makes something exciting or not. These topics come down to what you like the most. To me, there is nothing more exciting than Hockey and Boxing. So you can not prove they are not the most exciting to me, so of course I would give those two as my answer. But i understand these might not be in the top 4 or 5 for others.
And yes, ratings mean NOTHING when it comes to excitement. Who likes to watch certain sports more just because alot of other people do?? |

But its not a fair question. Unless it was meant to be "whats your most exciting sport"... but it wasn't cuz Meik bashed Rusty for putting hockey #1. Hey Meik, you want to talk about limited number of fans that hockey has? Lets say you asked this question in Canada... what sport do you think wins? |

Mike, your argument is flawed beyond belief. You're making the classic argumentum ad populum fallacy.
"Most exciting sport" should be indicative of some element of high energy, tempo, performance and proficiency on the field of play irregardless of its popularity or public activity off the field. Most exciting does not mean most popular. In some cases, it might not even mean most entertaining. In other words: You're judging the excitement of sport based on how many people fanatically follow it and its television ratings. If that's all the criteria you need to make your argument, then Britney Spears is the best singer, McDonalds has the best food and Dora the Explorer is the best television show. And the most exciting sport is actually soccer. |
