Silly Season 2006

With most domestic leagues now in the off season it is time once again for the summer transfer season to begin. Usually this season drags on and on and on with endless unsubstantiated rumormongering being all the vogue. Hopefully with this being a World Cup year perhaps all the transfer shennanigins get done early and often.

Of course the first big move of the 2006 silly season was the move of German skipper Michael Ballack from German Champions Bayern Munich to Chelscum for an overinflated price that only those blue scum would be willing to pay no doubt. I didn't look up the actual fee, but I am willing to believe that they overpayed. Ballack is a tremendous talent no doubt on that, but, he is now also scum, no doubt on that either.

The other big move so far is the new signing for Arsenal. Yeah, that's right for once Arsene Wenger has moved in swiftly in the transfer market to get his man. Tomas Rosicky a Czecho international was brought in from Borussia Dortmund. He is an attacking midfielder and should slot in on the left as that spot appears to be opening up with imminent departure of Robert Pires. At 25 Rosicky still has many productive years ahead of him and he is the type of player from what I have seen that should fit in well at Ashburton Grove. So well done Arsenal!

So welcome aboard to the dear Tomas! Hmmmm, seems a bit strange to say he will fit in at Ashburton Grove rather than Highbury.

In a rather strange move Ian Dowie has stepped down as Manager at Crystal Palace. He and the Chairman stated reasons about how Dowie wanted to be closer to the family, blah, blah, blah.....I think he wants a Premiership job somewheres up North, look for him to be interested in the Middlesbrough job left vacant when Steve McLaren succeeds Sven Yawn Ericksson as the England Manager.

More to come I am sure......

What is that transfer fee exactly? A fee the club has to pay the other club to get a certain player? If so, teams have so much money they can throw $13mil at a different team just to get the new player?

1. morientes and cisse gone from liverpool...who is gonna play up top??? why loan out cisse..unless its a move meant for permanent transfer in the near future, i don't get it

2. transfer fee is basically the amount your gonna give a team for a player...in simple terms...so yea, taking ballack for example...chelsea is paying 13 million dollars to bayern munich...so bayern gets most of the money and i believe(gunny will have help me out on this) ballack gets a certain percentage of that too....kind've an incentive to leave your club and go play elsewhere

1. You forget there dear ssigs, the great Crouchinho!!! I have always rated Cisse on his raw ability but I don't think Rafa Benitez was all that enamored with him because he is quite independent on the pitch. He does not always conform to a certain system. Morientes is a player who has disapointed at Liverpool especially since his fine performances at AS Monaco.

2. You are quite correct on that ssigs, the transfer fee is paid to a club to get a player and during the transfer negotiations a certain percentage will be given to the player and his agent, but the bulk of the transfer money goes to the club. Kepp in mind Jay, that transfer fees also exist in baseball and hockey. If a baseball club wants to bring in a player from Japan or Korea then they have to negotiate a transfer fee, same in hockey when a Euro comes over, only in hockey the fees are capped so you don't get the outrageous sums of money that you see in soccer.

ok so they loan out cisse cause they don't like him on the field and morientes has been a disappointment..but it doesn't seem like they brought in anyone to take their places...with all the forwards chelsea has...liverpool should finish 40 points behind them

OK ssigs good question, so I had to go and look who Liverpool have besides Crouchinho. They have brought in the drunken ruffian Craig Bellamy and they still have Robbie Fowler who is best known for trying to sniff the touch line after he scored a goal, so there you have it. After Crouch you have a drunk and a coke head.

If they don't add someone it looks like a full season's worth of 4-5-1, ugh.

and crouchino....translated little crouch?? he'll be a disappointment cause of his name

craig bellamy will break his arm before the season in a bar fight

i think they are in trouble..unless they plan to rape italy when the teams are relegated...

chelsea by 22 points over arsenal or united this season...chelsea is super stacked
