Post Colts sign free agent QB Shaun King (AP)

Quarterback Shaun King, a starter at Tampa Bay when Tony Dungy was the coach there, signed a contract with the Indianapolis Colts on Friday. King, who did not play in the NFL last season, joined the Detroit Lions in March and was released on Wednesday. He will try to make the Colts as Peyton...

LMAO! Mr.nice guy Dungy doing his washed up buddy King a favor. How long till Dungy wears out his welcome in Indy? I guess as long a Peyton and ownership doesn't care about winning a Super Bowl.

Ouch, i think you are being alittle to harsh towards Dungy on this siging. As far as i know they only have 2 QB's on their roster (Peyton and Sorgi)... so why not add a veteran to be the #3 QB. Maybe he's one of those players that knows the game better than the ability will let them play it?

And lets face it, if any team gets so hurt that they have to play their #3 QB, they don't stand much of a chance no matter who it is. Plus, they would go out and trade for a better QB. King won't play.

C'mon,a guy that gets released by the Lions and was a disaster in Phoenix.
Also a history of showing up to camp overweight and out of shape.
Use that spot to groom a younger player.

Also, the Lions Marinelli is very familiar with King.If he had anything left in the tank,he wouldn't have been so quick to let him go.

Which young player should they groom? Should they pick up a QB who wasn't even good enough to be drafted? Sorgi is only 25, couldn't they groom him? Couldn't King's knowledge help that?

Now lets say they do sign said younger player and make him the #3 QB. How is he ever going to play over Peyton and Sorgi to even consider it grooming him? Its not like Peyton is on the door step of retiring. What does Peyton have left, maybe 7 or 8 years? I'm thinking they have plenty of time down the road to groom his heir apparent.

It doesn't matter.Anything is better than a guy who is washed up.This was nothing more than a personal favor.Fine if you don't want a young guy,but there are more qualified back ups than a guy who wasn't even in the league last year. You want knowledge, get a QB coach, not waste a roster spot.

Thats a good point, and i agree actually... but i guess it comes down to a matter of opinion on whether or not the guy is washed up. Shaun King is only 29 years old, so age isn't a factor. Who knows, maybe coming to camp in shape could change things? I don't know obviously, but i sure wouldn't call throwing for 340 yards and a td vs Carolina in Arizona a disaster.

If it was the only TD he threw in '04 and tack on 4 INT's it was.
