Im not happy about thta trade. I think Boynton is a solid defenseman and adds to the Boston toughness that has always been there. But....whatever.

Toughness can only get you so far. Mara is an upgrade and like jay said, can offer your team much more than Boynton.

Toughness in Retard Buttmans NHL is not needed. Boynton is probably better defensively than Mara. But he's slower, and much worse on the PP and moving the puck. Trust me, Paul Mara is very underrated because he's been stuck in hockey hell in Phoenix. Same thing with Shane Doan.

Mara is 6'4 219,so it's not like the guy is not a presence physically if he needs to be.In the new NHL, I'll take a 15 goals and 47 point D man anyday.

Even if he is a better offensive defensman I can already tell what our free agent signings are going to be like:

big money, big money, no whammies, no whammies, STOP!

Wow... talk about a total shake up in roster for the B's this coming year. Which they needed to do, IMO. However, it seems this team could be in re-build mode for the next year or two. But they are expecting to have around $25 mil in cap space to play with on free agents. Zhamnov's "ankle injury" could be a real bitch for the B's.

BOSTON GLOBE: Kevin Paul Dupont reported yesterday Bruins acting GM Jeff Gorton claims the club will buy out at least two players today, leading to speculation that Shawn MacEachern and Alexei Zhamnov are the likely candidates. If Zhamnov is bought out his agent may contest it as his client is still recuperating from an ankle injury suffered last season and the CBA stipulates injured players cannot be bought out. The Bruins also won't be offering contracts to its UFA players, among them Hal Gill, Brian Leetch, Tom Fitzgerald, and Danny Lacouture.

Spector's Note: Not suprising that Gill and Leetch won't be re-signed. The former is too slow for today's game and the acquisition of Mara made Leetch expendable (Man, I never thought I'd see the day where I'd be writing that!). If the B's do buy out Zhamnov they must be confident of having a strong case under the CBA for doing so. Otherwise it could be a costly mistake.

Oh yeah. I forgot he broke his ankle.....after separating his shoulder one game before the season actually started.

I do think that they will use ALOT of that cap room on FA's. Probably not too many good ones, but something that will fill the gaps decently.

Because of European transfer rules and deadlines, Gorton said the B’s will not be able to sign Finnish goalie Tuukka Rask, the big 19-year-old who was acquired from Toronto for Andrew Raycroft, until the end of next season.

^Boston Herald^

So let me get this straight. We traded a potentially great goalie for someone who can't even play American hockey this season......Great Job.

I really can't imagine the B's traded for him to play this year as a 19 year old anyway Nick. Not many that young do... so he will get another year of experience over-seas.

I understand that and I didn't expect him to play for the B's anyway, but I would rather see him over here in the AHL to just get some experience in the AHL and in case something happens to Hannu or Thomas. No if an injury occurs we have to get someone off the waiver wire.
