Exclamation what do you like about this place, what don't you?

Okay this should be an interesting topic!! What do you like about the Rant, What don't you like about the Rant. More of an education post than anything!!!

This will either be a dead thread or a thriving one!

I like the freedom of expression here even when you go off topic which is always.
The only think I didn't like was the collapse of the most recent p/cp contest.

I think that this site is great. I really wish that I could spend more time on it. It's blocked for me at work and by the time I get home no one is on and most of the conversations are over.

My likes...

* Great group of posters to talk to on a daily basis. We may not have many, but the ones here really do know what they are talking about. Which can make for some really fun debates.

* During said debates, 99% of the time, we can get at each other and belittle their opinions, but never get mad and take it personally.

* The ability to go off topic often. With only 1 major sport going on, its hard to talk sports all day long. I don't think we should have to go somewhere else to talk about other "non-sports" issues.

* As far as the actual site goes... picks of the week is a great contest! The Rant Radio is a great idea (i'll get to that in my dislikes as well). The P/CP was a great idea (again, more on this later). Kent Brockman posting stories is also great, it gives us topics to talk about when we probably never would have brought it up. Writers posting their stories on a daily basis is great. I love reading them.

* And like others have said, the best thing is the FREEDOM to post whatever you want. The two rules are no porn and no racism. If you can't deal with that, then you probably aren't right for this forum anyway.

okay... i'll post my dislikes in another post to keep this from being unreadable.

My Dislikes... (this in not meant to be critical of the site, just some thoughts)

* First and foremost, the lack of posters. We have a ton of people signed up, but few are regulars. I wish we could keep more of these people around. Most just seem to come and go. I don't know how we can change that, but any "newbies" reading this... WE WANT YOU TO POST!

I want to help Meik get new posters, any suggestions to do this is greatly appreciated. I don't mean new members to just sign up, but people who really want to post.

* The lack of following through on many things. The P/CP is a classic example. We had a ton of interest in this since the begining, but every time, there were issues. I don't know if this will ever get off the ground. We had one judge quit the site right in the middle of it.

Another thing is the Rant Radio. That seems to have pretty much disappeared, but i want to work with people to get this back up and running. Anyone interested please let myself or Meik know. I need someone to do a hockey show with me for the upcoming season. Shane has so much going on in his life right now he just doesn't have the time.

I guess thats it actually. I love this site obviously or i wouldn't be here so much. Keep up the great work Meikee!

As far as posting goes, its difficult for a lot of people to post regularly during the day. If something was done to increase night and weekend posting, I think you would get a great deal of overall activity due to overflow. I can check a few times a day, but not stay logged on for hours. It's a slow time now, during football season there seemed to be an increase in activity. Screw Nebraska

Believe me, its not hard to get alot of people to post during the day. There are two other sites that i go to (put hardly post on, just read the info) that have a ton of people posting all day long. The Flyers site has 76 members signed on right now, and its not even hockey season. The boxing site has people on and off all day as well, with a lot of posting. And this site is better than both of them, which you would think would lead to more posters.

But i agree... it would help if there were more posts at night and during the weekend.

Weren't we supposed to stay on topic in this forum?

But my biggest like is freedom of speech and the laid-backedness....but there are problems with posters. I have been trying to get going with it and trying to recruit people as well, but that hasn't really worked out too well.

The good set of smileys is a plus as well.
